Shoemaker-Levi 9
Shoemaker-Levi 9 (SL9, D/ 1993F2) is a comet that collided with Jupiter in 1994, and it is also the first time that people can directly observe the impact event of celestial bodies in the solar system. This comet was discovered by American astronomers Eugene and Carolyn Shoemaker and astronomy enthusiast david levy at the Paloma Observatory in California on March 24th, 1993. This is the ninth comet they discovered, so it is named according to the international star naming rules.
