What is the custom of Naxi people's engagement?

In the past, Naxi people in the dam area of Lijiang, due to the deepening cultural influence of the first Han people in Yongzheng in 1723, have also implemented the system of monogamy and arranged marriage by their parents. The marriage of children is decided by parents, arranged by matchmakers, and married by cows, sheep, pigs and wine. Marriage pays attention to the traditional ethics of the Han nationality, such as the right family, three obedience and four virtues, and the husband sings with the wife. There are many marriages between Naxi in Lijiang and the Han and Tibetans. Within the nation, people with the same surname and different clans can marry, but it is absolutely forbidden to marry people from the same family. When getting married, everyone has to go through the procedures of betrothal, wine invitation and wedding ceremony: betrothal, which is called "Japanese mussel" in Naxi language, meaning "seeing both of them off". When the boy is five or six years old, his parents will pay attention to finding a wife for him, and ask the fortune teller or priest Dongba to arrange eight characters for his birthday, or burn incense in the temple for a sign. If the date of birth of the girl in phase is consistent with that of her son, the parents will ask the matchmaker to take a pot of wine to the woman's house to speak for her son. If the woman's parents agree, the wedding will be held on a date when the girl is about ten years old. When engaged, the man must give the woman a gift, which is called "small wine" for the first time. The man gives the woman two liters of white rice (about 2 kg), an altar of wine (about 5 kg), two to four boxes of brown sugar and two packages of tea. Among them, sugar, tea and wine are indispensable gifts, and the number of other gifts depends on the man's wealth. After drinking a little wine, either party can go back on their word if they think the marriage is inappropriate. If the woman wants to break off the marriage, she must return all the gifts she received to the man's family: if the man wants to break the contract, he can inform the woman of the decision. After drinking a little wine for a year or so, the male family sends a second gift to the female family, which is called "drinking a lot". In addition to the gift of a little wine, you should also give a piece of cloth (about 7 feet), two pieces of clothes, a pair of jade or silver bracelets, 3 kilograms of pork, some cash, etc., which will be sent to the woman's house by the matchmaker and relatives and friends of the man. The woman treated each other with a banquet, and the guests drank the wine sent by the man's family, praised the wine for being good and sweet, and congratulated the two families who got married. After the banquet, the woman sent a pot of wine and two boxes of brown sugar or some rough handfuls to the man. The man will then offer the wine returned by the woman to his ancestors and entertain relatives and friends. After the "big wine", the two sides can no longer go back on their marriage.
