Eight virtues refer to loyalty and filial piety, benevolence, faithfulness and harmony. In the sixth lecture on "Nationalism of the Three People's Principles", Sun Yat-sen paid special attention to advocacy. Because there are eight words in total, the general practice is abbreviated as "eight virtues". It was put forward by Sun Yat-sen, and there was no clear origin in ancient times.
Four dimensions are derived from the following words in Guanzi Herdsmen:
If you are honest, you will know manners. When you have enough to eat and wear warm clothes, you will know the honor and disgrace. ... four-dimensional Zhang, then you do it. ... defend the country and decorate the four dimensions. ... if the four dimensions don't open, the country will die. State-owned four-dimensional, one-dimensional absolute tilt, two-dimensional absolute danger, three-dimensional absolute overlap, four-dimensional absolute extinction. What is four dimensions? It can be right, it can be dangerous, it can be safe, it can be repeated and it can't be wrong. One is courtesy, the other is righteousness, the third is honesty, and the fourth is shame. Etiquette does not exceed the festival, righteousness does not advance itself, honesty does not cover up evil, and shame does not waste. Therefore, if it is not excessive, it will be safe. If you don't make progress, the people won't cheat you. If you don't hide evil, you must do it yourself. No waste, no evil.
