What are the customs in Panyu?

1. Dragon Boat Festival Panyu is a water town with many river networks. The Dragon Boat Festival dragon boat has been popular among Panyu people for a long time. During Panyu’s Dragon Boat Festival every year, dragon racing, worshiping and visiting relatives and friends are organized everywhere. Three major dragon boat festivals have been formed by convention. Every year, as agreed in the early fifth month of the lunar calendar, each township takes turns to gather to compete and eat "dragon boat rice". The scene is lively.

2. Dragon and lion dance. Dragon and lion dance is very common in Panyu folk festivals. During the Lunar New Year and important township parades (such as the Zhongcun Kang Gong Festival, Shawan March 3rd Beidi Birthday , the God-Yearing Competition, the City Bridge and Ten Township Meetings, etc.), the dragon, lion, phoenix dance, and fish dance from various villages alternately appear.

3. Panyu Water Color, a water performance activity using rafts as the carrier and with drama or folklore stories as the main content, is mainly spread in Shiqiao Town, Shawan Town and other places in Panyu District.

4. Panyu Ao Fish Dance is said to have developed from the "Fish Lantern Dance" introduced from Zhejiang. When Panyu settled in Panyu, they developed the fish lantern dance brought from their place of origin into the fish dance. There has been an "Aoyu Meeting" in Shayong, Panyu for generations, and it is held every nine years without interruption. It has a history of more than 600 years.

5. Piao Color in the Shawan is a traditional folk art activity that is paraded and performed during the seasons. Shawan Piaose uses the color cabinet as the display stage. On the color cabinet stands an 8-12-year-old costumed child, which is the "screen". On the "screen" stand one or two children in costumes who are about 2 years old, namely "piao".
