Poyang Lake, called Peng Lize, Peng Ze, guanting lake, Yang Lan and Stan Lake in ancient times, is located in the northern part of Jiangxi Province, in Jiujiang, Nanchang and Shangrao. It is the largest freshwater lake in China and the second largest lake in China, second only to Qinghai Lake. It is one of the main tributaries in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, and it is also an important lake with water, throughput and seasonality in the Yangtze River basin.
The area of the lake is flat (14m ~15m) 3150 square kilometers, and advanced (20m)4 125 square kilometers. But at the low water level (12m), it is only 500 square kilometers. According to the hydrological data in 2008, when the water level of the lake is 22.59 meters, the lake area is 4070 square kilometers. Poyang Lake receives water from five major rivers, such as Ganjiang River, Fuhe River, Xinjiang River, Raohe River and Hexiu River, and from Poyang Lake, Zhang Tian River and Jintong River. After storage, it flows into the Yangtze River at the mouth of the lake.
Poyang Lake plays a great role in regulating the water level of the Yangtze River, conserving water resources, improving the local climate and maintaining the ecological balance in the surrounding areas.
Introduction of Panyang Lake Island
According to incomplete statistics, there are nearly 50 islands in Poyang Lake (subject to the islands exposed to the water during the wet season). Most of them are distributed in the southern lake area south of Songmenshan Island, with Duchang and Poyang counties as the most. There are nearly 30 large and small islands in duchang county, 20 large and small islands in Poyang County, and a few islands in other counties (districts). Most of them are uninhabited islands, and there are few islands with tourism development.
Poyang Lake has two islands: Changshan Islands in Poyang County (13 islands) and Tangyin Islands in duchang county (nearly 20 islands). The largest island is Lianhu Island in Poyang County, covering an area of 42 square kilometers, with a bridge connected to the land. The smallest islands are Luoxingdun and Yinshan Island, with an area of less than 0.0 1 km2.
Most of the islands in Poyang Lake are named after mountains, such as inclined mountains, which are shaped like embroidered shoes. Maanshan, shaped like a saddle; Yinshan, shaped like a seal; Piaoshan is shaped like a water ladle. Some are named after historical legends, such as Zhupao Mountain Island, which is related to Zhu Yuanzhang; The falling star pier is said to be named after a meteorite falling into the lake.
