This custom has been abolished. There is also a folk custom of eating "smart dishes" on Tanabata. "Qiaoshi" is made of rice flour mixed with brown sugar dipped in sesame seeds, with tongue-shaped and finger-shaped. People throw "smart food" on the back of tiles at night to reward magpies for building bridges and hope to bring more good news to the world.
In Qixi and Wenzhou, people have the custom of eating Maqiao and red bean cakes. Wiping eyes and hands can make people's eyes clear and ingenious. Tongxiang Puyuan has the custom of inviting machine gods on Tanabata. During the Republic of China, there was a nursery rhyme in Jiaxing: "Seven stars, seven stars, a shoulder pole star, only when you read it seven times skillfully can you be smart." The sacrifices in the evening are mainly watermelon, lotus root and water chestnut.
Taizhou: Shitang Little People Festival is located in Shitang and Ruoshan, Shitang Town, Wenling. Valentine's Day in China is called "Shitang Little People's Day". On Tanabata, the elders prayed for children under 16 years old.
More than 300 years ago, residents from Shitang and Ruoshan moved in from Fujian, bringing the custom of offering dolls to Chinese Valentine's Day, which was popular in southern Fujian at that time, to this area.
