The difference between Hanfu, Hanbok and Kimono

The Hanbok of South Korea and North Korea was developed from the Hanfu of the Ming Dynasty in China; the Japanese kimono was developed from the Hanfu of the Tang Dynasty of China. All in all, they all developed from Hanfu.

1: Characteristics: The main features of Hanfu are wide robes with big sleeves and a right lapel collar. Hanbok is mainly a narrow-sleeved cross-collar chest-length skirt. Kimonos generally have large sleeves and a right lapel collar.

2: Sleeve width: Hanfu has big sleeves, pipa show, straight sleeves and sword sleeves. Hanbok usually has narrow pipa sleeves. Kimonos usually have large sleeves.

3: The difference between Hanfu and Hanfu. The most difficult thing to distinguish between Hanfu and Hanbok is the coat and skirt.

①The top of Hanfu coat skirt is longer and does not have a slit; while the top of Hanbok skirt is shorter and has a high slit.

② In terms of shape, the front and back of the coat skirt are always straight, while the hanbok top has a flaky arc.

③ In terms of skirt shape, coat skirts are usually paired with horse-faced skirts or waist-length pleated skirts, while hanbok are paired with high-waisted, chest-length skirts with large puffs.

4: The difference between Hanfu and Kimono. Hanfu and kimono have many similarities in many aspects, making it difficult to tell them apart, but there are still big differences between the two.

① Both Hanfu and kimono have large sleeves. The large sleeves of Hanfu are longer than the fingertips and form a curtain shape when encircled, without curvature, while the sleeves of kimono are as long as the wrist and form a figure-eight shape when encircled.

②Back collar. The collar of Hanfu fits the body smoothly and the back collar is close to the body without protruding, while the back collar of kimono protrudes to show the beauty of the back of the neck.

③Waist. The skirt of Hanfu is narrow, generally no more than ten centimeters, while the kimono is equipped with a girdle, which is wide and long.

④Pattern. The patterns on women's kimono jackets are mainly pine forest cranes, heavy-color splash-ink landscapes and large-area patterns, while the women's jackets in Hanfu are lighter in color and lack large-area prints.
