How to deal with the pruning of ornamental flowers and trees?

Short cutting: When pruning extended branches with permanent backbone branches at all levels, special attention should be paid to the relationship between the incision and the underlying buds.

There are six kinds of cutting state and bud position when cutting short.

Schematic diagram of cutting state: 1. Correct cutting method II. Wrong cutting method 3. Shortcut method 4 ~ 6. Improper cutting method.

1 in the figure is the correct cutting method, that is, the inclined plane is opposite to the bud direction, its upper end is flush with the bud end, and its lower end is flush with the bud waist.

This cut is not large, which is conducive to nutrition and water supply to the bud, so that the cut is not easy to dry up, can heal quickly, and the bud will grow well.

In the cutting method in Figure 2, an excessive incision is formed, and the lower end of the incision reaches below the base of the bud. Because of excessive water transpiration, the growth potential of buds will be seriously affected, and even buds will die.

The cutting method in Figure 3 is still feasible, but it is easy to have the disadvantage of cutting buds if you are not skilled.

The cutting methods of 4, 5 and 6 in the figure leave short shoots, which are often difficult to heal, opening the door for the invasion of pests and diseases. Moreover, if the left branch tip is too long, it is easy to form an arc growth phenomenon after bud germination, which reduces the grade of seedlings for the extension of the main stem.
