Zhongwei is a prefecture-level city in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. As of 20 16, Zhongwei has jurisdiction over shapotou district, Zhongning and Haiyuan counties, 40 townships, 442 villages and 32 communities. The government is located in Binhe West Road, shapotou district.

Zhongwei is located at the junction of Ningxia, Inner Mongolia and Gansu provinces in the middle and west of Ningxia, and borders Hongsibao District, Tongxin County and Qingtongxia City in wuzhong, Ningxia in the east. It is connected with Yuanzhou District and Xiji County in Guyuan City, Ningxia in the south, Pingchuan District, Jingyuan County, Huining County and Jingtai County in Baiyin City, Gansu Province in the west, and Alashan Zuo Qi in Alashan League, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in the north.

The ground span of the central defender is east longitude 104 degrees 17 minutes-106 degrees 10 minutes, and north latitude is 36 degrees 09 minutes -37 degrees 43 minutes. After the Qin Dynasty merged with the six countries, General Meng Tian led 300,000 foot soldiers and took the land north and south of the Yellow River before bringing the central defender into the centralized territory. In the twenty-sixth year of the first emperor (22 1 BC), the Qin Dynasty established Beidi County, to which Zhongwei belonged. In the second year of Emperor Gaozu of the Western Han Dynasty (205 BC), he conquered Beidi County, restored the fortress along the river and built a city in Zhongwei.

In the autumn of the 20th year of Yuan Taizu (1226), Genghis Khan went to Jiudu of the Yellow River via Shatuo (now Shapotou) and captured Yingli County (formerly Zhongwei County). In the autumn of the 22nd year of Yuan Taizu (1228), Genghis Khan died in Tiandu Mountain Palace in Haiyuan today.

In the first month of Yongle in the Ming Dynasty, Shen Bing (1February 9, 403) changed the Ningxia right-back to Ningxia Zhongwei, and transferred it to Dusi, Shaanxi Province, where there were 6,000 soldiers guarding it, hence the name Zhongwei.

In the fourth year of Ming Dynasty (1439), Confucianism was established in Zhongwei Confucian Temple, and in the thirty-first year of Jiajing (1552), Song Wenjian was the first person in Renwu Imperial Examination in Ningxia.

In the forty-ninth year of Kangxi (17 10), Zhongwei established Yingli Academy.

In October of the second year of Yongzheng, Ding You (1724 12 February 12), the Qing court decided to change Ningxia Zhongwei into a county.

In July of the 25th year of Qianlong (1760), Zhongwei County Annals, the first county annals of Zhongwei compiled by Huang Enci, the county magistrate of Zhongwei, was published.

In the 17th year of Guangxu (189 1), Zhongwei first set up a telegraph office.

In the 30th year of Guangxu (1904), several European companies set up wool purchasing agencies in the county.
