Hushi mansion

Located at No.306 and No.312, Dongguan Street was the residence of Hu, a banker during the Republic of China. Covering an area of 1000 square meters, it was founded in the early years of the Republic of China and has a complete layout so far. Hu's residence at No.306, Dongguan Street was originally a small eight-character floor tile seam gatehouse with a pair of white marble drums next to it. The door is thick, covered with iron, and nailed with the pattern of "Five Blessingg Pan Shou". There is a threshold more than a foot high under the gate, and a concierge is connected to the east of the concierge. Every brick surface of the south wall is laid after planing and grinding, so the wall is quite smooth and delicate, which is rare in other old houses in Yangzhou. There used to be a prayer hall on the city wall, but it was later destroyed and the remnants still exist. On the left side of the temple is the door for grinding bricks and sewing instruments, which is one of the traditional layout forms of Dafu family in Yangzhou. Now the instrument door is complete, with three photo studios, three stalls in the south main hall, cypress stands and corridors on both sides. The original screen door behind the main hall. Passing through the main hall and the waist gate, people are backward, facing the bright residence, three dark and five patterns. The east wing is equipped with an ear door leading to the fire lane. The floor of the main hall and the front hall is paved with square bricks, and the bedroom is a raised wooden floor. There are two darkrooms on the west wall of the West Suite, which are difficult for ordinary people to find. The original secret door on the west wall of the darkroom communicates with No.312 Dongguan Street and enters the east room of the residence. There is also a secret door on the north wall of the darkroom, which leads to the narrow east-west lane at the north end. There is also a small door behind the bed in the East Suite, which leads to this narrow lane. In the north of the alley, a hexagonal gate is set up, which can reach the backyard and flower hall. Transparent flower windows stand on the garden wall. In the east of the garden, there is a brick-grinding moon gate leading to Donghuo Lane, a flower stand in the southeast corner of the garden, a rockery with a stacked lake in the southwest corner, a curved fish pond under it and a stone fence next to it. The living room is a combination of Chinese and western architecture, with cloisters on three sides, single eaves, leaning against the roof of the mountain and cornices walking on the wall. Western-style decoration of hall doors and windows. No.312, Dongguan Street, is Hu's wing, facing the third hall in the north and the third stall in the main hall in the south, with a side corridor, a bucket fan in front of the hall and a screen door behind it. At the back of the hall, there is a waist door. At the back, the house has three compartments and two entrances. During the Republic of China, Hu started Tailong Bank in Nantong, and later worked as a manager in Shanghai Zhongnan Bank. In the late 1940s, I went to my old house at No.306 Dongguan Street in Yangzhou for health preservation due to illness.
