The Lakeside buffalo has a tall body, thick bones, well-proportioned parts, and plump muscles. The head is long and the forehead is wide, with an average head length of 47.28 cm and a forehead width of 23.1 cm (bulls are larger than steers and cows are the smallest). The mouth is wide and has a long "eight-shaped beard". The eyes are bright and lively, and the ears are big and flexible. The corners are semi-circular and curved backwards, and most of them have "plate corners" with opposite corners. Bulls have thick necks, while cows have long and thin necks. The temples are plump and the average chest circumference is over 190 cm. The back and waist are straight, and the ribs are open and arched. The belly of a cow is large and round: the belly of a bull is slightly smaller and cylindrical, and that of a steer is droopy. The hindquarters are deep and wide, with a prominent cross, and the rump is long and sloping. The testicles of bulls are exposed, and the udders of cows are underdeveloped and the teats are short and small. The limbs are stout, the forelimbs are straight, the hind limbs are curved, and a few hocks are inward. The hoof is round and large, and the hoof shell is black and solid. Most of the hoof shells are "wooden bowl-shaped", accounting for 68.8%, followed by "scissor-shaped", accounting for 24.1%. The tail is no longer than the hock and is thick at the base. Coat colors are divided into three types: gray, black (green), and white. Most of them are gray, accounting for 54.1%, green hair accounts for 36.1%, white hair is rare, and some cattle are dark brown or silver gray. Lakeside buffaloes with green and gray body hair all have white hair distributed on the lips and lower jaw, the inside of the limbs, under the abdomen, perineum and anus; there is a strip on the throat and front chest with an average length of 19.6 to 34.5 cm and a width of 3.13 to 6.16 cm. White hair belt, there are a small group of symmetrical white hairs on the inner corners of the head, face, mandible, and ears. There are also short and sparse white hairs on the trunk. The skin of the white-haired buffalo is pink, and there are dark spots on the nose, lips, perineum, and front armpits.
