The Ba Mausoleum of Emperor Wen of Han Dynasty is the mausoleum of Emperor Liu Heng of Han Dynasty. I believe many people have heard of the theft of Ba Mausoleum. Fortunately, these stolen treasures have now been returned to our country. The construction method of Baling Mausoleum is very unique. There are a large number of rare treasures in the mausoleum, and it has now become a tourist attraction.
The theft of Ba Ling
Ba Ling is the tomb of Liu Heng, Emperor Xiaowen of the Han Dynasty, and is sometimes called Baling. Why is it given such a domineering name? Ba refers to the Ba River, because Ba Ling is close to the Ba River, hence the name. The mausoleum is currently located in the northeast corner of Bailuyuan in the eastern suburbs of Xi'an, which is now Maoyaoyuan Village, Xiwang Street Office, Baqiao District. It is called "Phoenix Mouth" by the locals.
In October 2001, the tomb of Queen Dou of the Western Han Dynasty was robbed. A large number of pottery figurines were sold by the tomb robbers. Six of them were smuggled out of the country and will be auctioned at Sotheby's in New York on March 20, 2002. line auction. After hearing the news, China's State Administration of Cultural Heritage and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs conducted extensive negotiations with the United States, and Sotheby withdrew the auction of the six national treasures and returned the six pottery figurines to China in June 2003.
Ba Mausoleum is located 57 kilometers southeast of the site of the front hall of Weiyang Palace in Chang'an City of the Han Dynasty. It is one of the two Western Han imperial mausoleums southeast of Chang'an City of the Han Dynasty (the other is the Du Mausoleum of Emperor Xuan of the Han Dynasty Liu Xun, and the other nine are The imperial mausoleums of the Western Han Dynasty are all located on the Xianyang Plain north of the Wei River). As for why the Baling Mausoleum was chosen here, it is speculated that it has something to do with the "Zhao Mu System" that was still followed in the early Han Dynasty.
However, judging from "Historical Records", Ba Ling chose to be built on the mountain, and anti-theft was considered as a very important factor. Ba Ling is the first imperial mausoleum in Chinese history to have a cave carved into a mountain as a palace. It had a great influence on the construction of mausoleums based on mountains in the Six Dynasties and the Tang Dynasty. Because the mountain is a mausoleum, no tombs can be found in Ba Ling. That is, the tomb chamber is dug according to the mountain, and there is no sealing earth to be found. Moreover, there are very few records about Ba Ling in historical documents, so we can only speculate on the specific location and internal structure of Ba Ling based on the only records.
