Red Silk Dance

Chinese Han folk dance. It is named after the dancers dancing ribbons of different colors and lengths. Silk dance has a long history. Silk dance images have been found on portrait stones and portrait bricks in the Han Dynasty. For example, there is a set of music and dance figures engraved on the portrait bricks of Yangzishan, Sichuan. Among them is a female dancer holding a long piece of silk in each hand. There is a short stick at the end, the left hand is raised up, and the right hand is placed flat in front of the abdomen. Looking back, the ribbon is fluttering like waves, which is a vivid image. The ribbons used in silk dance are divided into long and short types. Short pieces of silk are generally used in folk songs and dances such as Yangko. Some dancers hold a short piece of silk in one hand and a fan in the other to dance in harmony. Some dancers hold a short piece of silk in each hand and dance cheerfully and lively. The long silk is about 0.9 to 1 meter wide and 4 to 6 meters long. One end of the silk is tied with a wooden stick of about 0.33 meters. The dancers hold wooden sticks and move the long silk, using various footwork and dance postures to create various silk flowers. There are dozens of basic silk flowers, including small eight-character flowers, "big eight-character flowers", "double flowers", and "wavy flowers". The long silk dance is divided into two types: one-handed (dancing one long silk) and two-handed (dancing two long silks). There are rich silk dances preserved in traditional Chinese opera.
