The life of Zhao Zilong

Zhao Yun, courtesy name Zilong, was born in Zhending, Changshan, in 154 AD. The book describes him as eight feet tall, with thick eyebrows, big eyes, and a broad face. In 194 AD, Zhao Yun first served Gongsun Zan. In the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Zhao Yun rescued Gongsun Zan at the Battle of Panhe, and fought with Wen Chou, a famous general in Hebei Province. Zhao Yun began to conquer with Gongsun Zan, and later took refuge with Liu Bei. He protected Liu Chan and Mrs. Gan from danger during the fierce battle at Changsaka Ban in Dangyang. During Liu Bei's Western Expedition, Zhao Yun cut the river and recaptured Liu Chan, his lord. Later, Zhuge Liang, Zhang Fei and others went up the river and attacked the Jiangyang and Zizhong areas, completing the siege of southwest Chengdu. During the battle for Hanzhong, Zhao Yun used his weak force to set up an ambush, causing Cao's army to retreat. In the sixth year of Jianxing, Zhao Yun followed Zhuge Liang in the Northern Expedition and successfully attracted Cao Zhen's forces at the Battle of Xiegou, allowing Zhuge Liang to successfully capture the three counties of Liangzhou. Hou Yun lost to Cao Zhen due to the disparity in military strength, but because he and Deng Zhi led the troops to defend, the Shu army was not defeated. After the war, Zhao Yun requested to demote himself. He died in the seventh year of Jianxing, and was posthumously named Marquis Shunping.

Zhao Yun was a loyal person, outspoken and dared to remonstrate. He once urged Liu Bei to return the land that he planned to reward to the heroes to the people. Before Liu Bei attacked Wu, he also gave some loyal advice, advising Liu Bei to put national enmity first and personal enmity first. In his posthumous letter, it was emphasized that he had the style of a wise man, could be considerate of people's sentiments, and was kind to the people. His high moral integrity is still praised by people today.
