Introduction to Fei Ge of Miao Fei Ge

Miao Feige, called HXak Yangt in Miao language, is a type of Miao song popular in Taijiang, Jianhe, Kaili and other areas of Guizhou. The tone of Fei Ge is high-pitched, bold, unrestrained, and bright. When it is sung, the sound shakes the valley and has a strong appeal. Feige is mostly used in public occasions such as celebrations and farewells. It is improvised and sung on the spot. The content of the lyrics is mainly about praising, thanking and encouraging. Fei Ge is usually sung during festive activities such as celebrating the Miao New Year and dragon boat racing.

Fei Ge’s lyrics are usually about thirty sentences each. In a song, there are often three-character sentences, five-character sentences, seven-character sentences, eight-character sentences, etc., but most of them are five-character sentences. The tune has a roughly fixed score, and the length and speed of the beats have a roughly fixed format, but sometimes it can be played on the original basis. In a song, the beginning is slow. The first sentence is fast first and then slow, and the drag sound becomes higher and longer. The second sentence is fast first and then slow, but the drag sound gradually becomes lower and longer. From the third or fourth sentence, Start singing at a medium speed, gradually speed up, and when you get to the main part, sing quickly. After singing the climax, sing a small part slowly and gradually, which is close to the end. When singing the last one or two sentences, the drag sound gradually becomes lower and longer.
