In "Historical Records: The Fifth Annals of the Qin Dynasty" and "Historical Records: Biography of Ranghou", there were records of Mi Yue: Queen Zhao's mother's original name was Mi Bazi, and when King Zhao came to the throne, Mi Bazi was named Queen Mother Xuan. The surname Mi is the national surname of Chu State, and the real Mi Yue is not a princess of Chu State. She may be a daughter of a clan from a poor family. Mi Yue's mother once remarried. She has two younger brothers with different surnames, one named Mi Rong and the other named Wei Ran. The "Ranghou" in "Historical Records: Biography of Ranghou" refers to Wei Ran. So, is the real Mi Yue in history the same as the Mi Yue in the film and television drama "The Legend of Mi Yue"?
Why is Mi Yue called Mi Bazi? According to records, the harem of the Qin State was divided into eight levels: Queen, Madam, Beauty, Beloved, Eighth Son, Seventh Son, Long Envoy, and Young Envoy. Bazi is the lower status among them. Mi Yue entered the Qin harem and gave birth to three children, but until the death of King Qin Huiwen, she was always subordinate.
After the death of King Qin Huiwen, King Qin Wu succeeded to the throne, and the fate of Mi Bazi, mother and son took a sharp turn. One of her sons, Ying Ji, was sent to Yan State as a hostage. How did Mi Yue become the Queen Mother?
This starts with King Wu of Qin who came to the throne. The Qin State favors martial arts, and King Wu of Qin had a special hobby, that is, he liked to compete with others in terms of strength. One time, King Wu of Qin was playing a game of lifting a cauldron with others. The cauldron fell down and broke his leg. King Wu of Qin died tragically. King Wu had no children, so the people of the country welcomed Ji, the son of Mi Bazi, who was pledged to Yan, as the new King of Qin, who was named King Zhao of Qin. Mi Bazi was revered as the Queen Mother, and was known as the Queen Mother Xuan in history. Because King Zhao of Qin was young, the Queen Mother was in charge and his uncle Wei Ran was the general. From then on, Mi Bazi ushered in the second half of his life in Qin State.
In the play, Mi Yue united with her lover Yiqujun to push her son to the throne. In real history, Mi Bazi united with other countries and relied on her half-brother Wei Ran to make her son who was far away in the Yan Kingdom the King of Qin. This shows her strong political skills.
Historical circles have spoken highly of the role of this female politician in the history of Qin. The famous historian Ma Feibai once said of Empress Dowager Xuan of Qin: 'With her status as the queen mother, Empress Dowager Xuan of Qin, She sacrificed Hue to have an affair with King Yiqu, and then planned to kill him, destroying Qin's western troubled Yiqu in one fell swoop, so that Qin could focus on heading eastward without any worries. Her achievements were no less than Zhang Yi and Sima Cuo's attack on Bashu.
In real history, the Queen Mother's emotional life was quite open, leaving many records in history books.
"Historical Records" records: When King Qin Huiwen was alive, Yiqurong had already surrendered to the Qin State. However, after Miyue's son King Qin Zhaoxiang succeeded to the throne, King Yiqurong who came to congratulate him was unruly. Tie, was very disdainful of King Qin Zhaoxiang and had great intentions of rebellion. Under this situation, Queen Mother Qin Xuan made a decision that has been criticized for a long time. She had an affair with King Yiqu and gave birth to two children for him. When the Qin State became powerful again, Queen Mother Qin Xuan deceived King Yiqu into Ganquan Palace, suddenly launched an attack, killed King Yiqu, and then sent troops to destroy Rong Di.
As for Wei Choufu, Mi Yue's male favorite in her old age, it is also recorded in "Warring States Policy": Empress Dowager Xuan doted on her lover Wei Choufu very much. When she was about to die, she ordered Wei Choufu to be buried. Wei Choufu was very frightened when he learned about it, so he asked Yongrui to lobby the Queen Mother. Yong Rui first asked Queen Mother Xuan whether she could perceive things in the world after death, and Queen Mother Xuan replied that she could not. Yong Rui said that since people will not have any consciousness after death, why would you put your beloved to death? If the dead are really sentient, then the late king would have hated you, the queen mother, for his affair. Queen Mother, it's too late for you to make up for your mistakes, so how can you have an affair with Wei Choufu? Wei Choufu thus escaped being buried.
In the vast history, those who can be remembered are either famous for a hundred years or infamous for thousands of years. However, the Queen Mother Qin Xuan did not make any significant achievements. It is just that her son, King Qin Zhaoxiang Yingji, is more famous, and others The influence of his mother, Empress Dowager Xuan, on him should only be reflected in his early years. It is undeniable that Empress Dowager Xuan was also successful in cultivating his son, but the influence was not that great.
