Lantern Festival is one of the most solemn ethnic festivals of Gelao people in Tang Ya ethnic village in Maoba town. At the end of each year, a prestigious leader is elected to be the person in charge of the meeting. He will convene all households to discuss and decide the number of participants and the scale of activities, and according to the situation of the rich and the poor, inform all households to prepare tea oil and miscellaneous wine (commonly known as altar wine) ranging from half a catty to five catties for the holidays.
Lantern Festival usually lasts from the first day of the first lunar month to the fifteenth day of the first lunar month. After breakfast on the first day of the first month of the first month, all the men, women and children in the family should dress up, put on national costumes and rush to the Lantern Castle in Qingshuiyan with a smile. As soon as people arrived, they offered wine and meat to heaven and earth for the first time. Young and strong people will set up pre-prepared lamp poles in the castle, hang large lanterns with tea oil lamps on the top of the poles with ropes, and then set off firecrackers to announce the start of the lamp pole festival.
The lamppost is made of straight and sturdy Chinese fir, which is more than 20 feet high. At the top of the lamp pole, there are cross bars and iron rings, through which hanging ropes pass, and lanterns can be hoisted and oiled. Lanterns are made of oiled paper or cellophane, and there are wooden sheds to shelter them from the wind and rain. Lanterns will be lit from the first day of the first month to the fifteenth night of the first month, and you are not allowed to go out halfway.
During the day and midnight of the Lantern Festival, people carry out various festival activities under the lamppost, some play eggs, some swing, some sing folk songs, some dance lusheng, some pray to God, and some drink altar wine. After the fifteenth day of the first month, the activities stopped and the lampposts were erected until the next year. According to the introduction of the elderly at home, the lamp post symbolizes the integrity, courage and bright future of the Gelao people.
Beat eggs Eggs are woven with strips, and the eggs are lined with soft substances of different sizes, which are divided into Party A and Party B, but the number of participants is not limited. When the two sides fight, they will bounce the eggs around, and those who miss the ground will lose. During the competition, the crowd was blocked and the atmosphere was warm.
Most of the people who take part in this activity by swinging are teenagers. Swing leisurely, dancing like a butterfly, laughing.
Put yourself in front of folk singers, one for you and one for me, free to ask and answer questions, and have endless fun.
The Gelao people who dance Lusheng dance use the five-tube Lusheng. Those who can play lusheng come first, those who can't. Then, Lu Sheng began to dance, accompanied by singing and dancing. Dancers find bosom friends in the dance and get married.
Pray for the elderly to light incense sticks and kowtow to the lamppost, and wish the beautiful women peace, abundant crops and prosperous livestock.
On the afternoon of the altar wine festival, everyone took out the altar wine and put a small bamboo pole in the altar to suck. Men, women and children, pass it on to me and invite them to visit. If you can't taste the wine, you will be drunk when you drink the wine.
There is a local story about the origin of the Lantern Festival: It is said that during the Pingping period of the Southern Song Dynasty, the young leader of the Gelao people led everyone to dig ditches and repair weirs, and worked hard to harvest crops for several years. On the first day of the first month, the leader held a wedding and everyone celebrated for him. A big wooden pole was set up on the Dragon and Phoenix Castle to make a big lantern, which was hung on the top of the wooden pole, and there were lights everywhere. Men, women and children are singing, dancing and playing lusheng under the lights until the fifteenth day of the first month. With the passage of time, this celebration has become a habit and passed down from generation to generation. If this legend is true, the Lantern Festival has been popular for at least 700 years.
