Feast Master: How does Buddhism view birthdays and destiny?

Vital signs, astrology and geomantic geography originated very early, and the legends of astrologers can be pushed back to the time before Archean. When heaven and earth formed, that is, when the universe existed, their principles had been formed.

From the Buddhist point of view, there is neither denial nor affirmation about vital signs and geomantic omen, because although they have certain truth, they are not absolute truth, credible but not superstitious enough, and they cannot be trusted or disbelieved. Therefore, Buddha Sakyamuni forbade his disciples to engage in astrology, geomantic omen and divination, but he did not object to their existence.

Astrology is the relationship between the movement of celestial bodies and our position on the earth, which has a certain orbit with each other, resulting in the change of climate and season, the configuration of geographical position and the living environment of characters. Birthdates' numerology principle is to add, subtract, multiply and divide according to the time and year of birth. For example, life in the north born in the winter of the Year of the Horse will not be good, because the horse has no grass to eat in the north in winter; If the rabbit was born in the south of spring, it would have a good fate.

But from the standpoint of Buddhism, people's fortunes are all due to the good and evil of past lives, so it is innate to feel the fruits of this life. If you add the acquired efforts or slackness, it will change or affect the fate of this life. This is the acquired factor plus the innate condition, which constitutes the so-called fate.

Because the karma created in previous lives is different, I feel that the environment in this life is different. The so-called environment, including parents' inheritance, cultural and civilized background, upbringing and education, and even brothers and other relatives, teachers, friends, colleagues and classmates, will affect the fate of a lifetime.

If the karma in the last life is not good, the environment in this life is not good, and it may not be a bad decision; As long as we pay attention to inner cultivation, physical health, knowledge growth and wisdom development, we will change our original destiny.

Therefore, it is not unreasonable for the middle and lower classes to judge a person's life fortune only according to the numerology of birth date, but it is impossible for the upper and middle classes, especially the upper class.

Numerology and physiognomy should be separated: numerology is the so-called birth until birth, which belongs to congenital. Physiognomy is to accept the body images inherited by parents after birth, including face, petrography, acoustics and palm prints. On the other hand, due to the acquired exercise or abuse, the normal balance between health or disability and psychology, the body shape at birth will change to varying degrees with the process of life, which is the sum of the reasons. Therefore, numerology cannot be changed, and the face can be changed at any time. So there is no phasing and no destiny. Sure, believe it or not.

As for geomantic geography, it is natural and common sense that it determines the quality of its influence on people according to the orientation and geographical form of celestial bodies. If you follow the nature, you can get the weather and the benefits of mountains and rivers; Contrary to nature, on the contrary. Philosophically speaking, this belongs to metaphysical applied philosophy or natural science.

Modern people use the scientific basis of magnetic field and magnetism to explain the principles of geomantic omen and geography. The concentration point of magnetic force and the direction of magnetic field are beneficial to human body and also helpful to people's mood; Otherwise, it is also the opposite.

The so-called feng shui, wind is air, is the vitality from the air; Water is necessary for the growth of all things, and it is the vitality from underground. With the cooperation of these two kinds of vitality, coupled with the geographical location that can absorb enough sunlight, isn't that equal to the three elements of life: sunshine, air and water?

However, Mr. Li Yinong, a famous geographer, said: Only when merit, birth and geographical feng shui are accumulated and well coordinated can we live a long life. The so-called birth is innate numerology; The so-called accumulated virtue is the effort of the day after tomorrow; Geography and geomantic omen only account for one third. If you have a bad life, a bad heart and improper behavior, you will not find good feng shui; Even if you have good feng shui, you will be destroyed by natural disasters such as floods and earthquakes. And he said, "Three points for feng shui, seven points for being an official." That is, feng shui must be combined with human efforts to improve the environment.

Therefore, from the standpoint of Buddhism, although Feng Shui and geography have their reasons, they are not necessarily the decisive reasons.

In ancient times, all ancestors were able to plant grass and build jungles in the mountains and mountains of osawa, which became famous mountains. Since it is a famous mountain, it is necessary to occupy a good geomantic geography, which will last for thousands of years and be invincible for generations. How good geomantic geography is. But they don't have professional knowledge of geomantic geography, and they can often change their geography, which is not artificial, but natural. For example, in the twenty-fifth year of the Republic of China, when Xu Yun, an old monk, revived the Nanhua Temple in Manting, Caoxi, it happened that the embankment was built by heavy rain and the river course was diverted.

On the other hand, professional astrologers or astrologers known as outstanding astrologers rarely find good geomantic omen and geography for themselves, and few astrologers use their own theories and experiences to change their destiny. Therefore, Buddhists should take learning Buddhism as the foundation and guiding all beings with Buddhism as the foundation. If their major is numerology, astrology and geomantic omen, they will put the cart before the horse. The wise men in the world might as well dabble in it. If people in the middle and lower classes learn this kind of miscellaneous books and foreign skills, it will not only waste time, but also hinder the rectification movement. It is appropriate to set limits.
