The origin of Yan Xishan’s name

Yan Xishan’s nickname was Wanxi. One day, the father and son were walking on the street and saw many people gathered around to read the notice. They squeezed in to take a look. , seeing that Shanxi Wubei Academy was recruiting students, after returning home, the father and son discussed it all night and decided to sign up. That night, Yan Fu Yan Shutang tossed and turned and couldn't fall asleep.

I thought about how glorious my son would be if he were admitted to the Military Academy and became a military attaché leading troops after graduation. Later, I thought that if my son became an official, it would be indecent to call him by his nickname, "Wanxi" and "Wanxi" everywhere, so I wanted to give my son a loud official name. Because Yan Shutang was always superstitious, he thought of fortune telling for his son to see if he could pass the exam, and asked a fortune teller to help him choose an official name.

Yan Shutang told the fortune teller Yan Wanxi’s birth date. After careful calculation, the fortune teller said that Yan Wanxi was short of gold in his five elements and would definitely succeed in this exam. Yan Shutang also asked a fortune teller to give his son an official name based on Yan Wanxi's fortune. The fortune teller shook his head for a long time, and after repeated deliberation, he finally decided to call it "Xishan". From then on, Yan Wanxi changed his name to Yan Xishan.
