A single spark can start a prairie fire (Mao Zedong’s famous saying) Editor
A little spark can burn a large wilderness. It is a metaphor for something new that starts small but has great potential for development. [1] (燎:burn).
This is a letter from Mao Zedong to Lin Biao, in reply to a letter circulated by Lin Biao seeking opinions on how to estimate the future of the Red Army. In this letter, Mao Zedong criticized Lin Biao and some comrades in the party for their pessimistic assessment of the current situation. In 1948, Lin Biao proposed to the Central Committee that his name would not be mentioned when this letter was published publicly. Mao Zedong agreed with this opinion. When included in the first edition of this book, the letter was retitled "A Single Spark Can Start a Prairie Fire", and the places where Lin Biao was criticized were deleted.
