Do dental technicians need to sterilize alginate-based blades?

Alginate impression material is an elastic and irreversible impression material. Commonly used ones include sodium alginate, potassium alginate, and ammonium alginate. It is divided into two types: powder type and paste type. The powder type is mixed with water and the paste type is used with cementing agent. Potassium alginate powder impression material is currently commonly used clinically. The material has fine particle size, high elasticity, high accuracy in making impressions, and is easy to use (just mix the powder and water in proportion when taking the impression) and can be used to make impressions for various types of restorative treatments.

Mixing

1. Preparation of materials: rubber bowl, mixing knife, alginate powder impression material, water, measuring cup.

2. Operation method: First put the powder into a rubber bowl, then add water, and measure the water-to-powder ratio according to product requirements (generally manufacturers provide easy measurement and materials). In winter, when the room temperature is low, it can be mixed with warm water to shorten the solidification time. When mixing, the mixing knife is in flat contact with the inner wall of the rubber bowl. Mix gently at the beginning, turn the rubber bowl, and then increase the mixing speed to an average of 200R/min, complete in 30 seconds, and the solidification time is 2~3 minutes.

3. How to put the ingredients on the tray: Place the blended materials in front of the tray, scrape the materials onto one side of the rubber bowl, and repeatedly use a mixing knife to fold and squeeze the materials in the bowl. exhaust. When placing the material on the maxillary tray, form a ball, take it out with a mixing knife, and push it from the distal to the mesial direction of the tray to prevent the generation of air bubbles. When placing the ingredients on the lower jaw tray, form the ingredients into strips on the mixing knife and rotate them from one end of the tray to the other. The materials stacked on the pallet should have a smooth surface, a uniform and appropriate amount, and no bubbles.
