The motto of Northeastern University is: self-improvement, unity of knowledge and practice. Around this theme, the school told the academic circles of the Republic of China that it should collect the school emblem, and all kinds of icons poured into the Northeast Information Department at one time. Among the letters from many designers, Lin's creative "Baishan Blackwater" stands out.
The school emblem designed by Lin is antique. The emblem of the prototype school says "Northeastern University". There are traditional elements such as the Book of Changes between the Northeast and the university, which looks beautiful. The motto of Northeastern University is "Unity of Knowledge and Action", which is made into a circle, symbolizing students' unity and serving the motherland. At the bottom of the school emblem is Changbai Mountain. Fierce bears and wolves face each other across Changbai Mountain, which means that we should be prepared for danger in times of peace and always be alert to international threats. The school emblem designed by Lin is beautiful and simple, and it is a rare masterpiece.
It is said that Lin was appreciated by Zhang Xueliang for designing the emblem of Northeastern University and asked her to be his private teacher. But Lin refused.
First of all, it should be that the times are constantly developing. The school emblem designed by Lin was so characteristic of the times that it was very practical at that time. But now that we have entered the era of peace, the feelings that many elements on this school emblem want to express are meaningless, so we have removed those parts such as wolves and bears to make everyone look more harmonious.
Another biggest reason is that the word "Northeastern University" on the new school emblem was written by the former president Zhang Xueliang with 1992, which is very meaningful to this school, so it is of course necessary to use it, which will replace the font that Lin thought before.
Later, Northeastern University revised its school emblem on the basis of Lin's design. Or the pattern of "white mountains and black water". Because Changbai Mountain and Heilongjiang are symbols of Northeast China, there is still a picture of "White Mountain and Black Water" on the new school emblem, but the graphics have changed a lot. There is also the word "Northeastern University" on it, with the English of Northeastern University on both sides, and the number 1923 below, which represents the school's founding time. Simple, but without losing its connotation, not as solemn as the old school emblem, but giving people the feeling of "youth".
