Between providence and fate

People who live in reality are often troubled by the word fate. Some time ago, I watched a lecture given by Wang Defeng, a professor of philosophy at Fudan University, about a person who has not realized his fate until he is forty years old and is somewhat enlightened. Right? People who have experienced it with a high probability will think it is right, but they have a stubborn energy for newborn calves. If they try to change the reality and just continue their purpose, they will think that their destiny is in their own hands. German musician Beethoven's famous symphony Destiny grasps the rhythm of destiny in the form of notes! Similarly, he also explained his life of pursuing music and overcoming fate with his own life process.

How should a person face it?

All fates should not be predetermined. We are all on the inevitable road from birth to death, and we will encounter all accidents, whether it is scenery or wind and rain, whether it is time or space. However, people can't stay in a warm house all the time because of the cold. Life is often interesting when it is intertwined with fate. With the deepening of understanding, life will be tasted and the meaning of life will be realized. We have seen people surfing on the sea. They are heading for the waves. To use an image metaphor, they are sailing against the current and creating wonderful things, because they have grasped the throat of fate and handled it skillfully. Is there a principle of grasping fate here? Having said that, it seems that fate can be recognized, utilized, grasped, transformed and created.

In China people's understanding of fate, I feel that providence and fate are often tied together, as if the unchangeable things are confused with the changeable things, which is easy to be confused. For example, the unchangeable times faced by human beings in a specific period, the fate of women under the feudal system and so on. In this way, it will be similar to the confusion between the big environment and the small environment. In this way, it is better to understand the fate that we think in two. That is, half is providence and half is fate, as if it were two different rivers, and finally the river of fate merged into the river of providence.

Machiavelli also asked: Are earthly things dominated by fate or by God? Excuse me: is this fate or providence?

"Time brings the ups and downs of fate or the transformation of right and wrong corresponding to situations and characters. Those who gallop on the cusp of the storm are all trapped in it, or they are heading for victory or falling into failure. "

"People can rape fate, but they can only remain silent in the face of providence." Hamlet written by Shakespeare illustrates the incompatibility between fate and providence. "This is the fate of Hamlet, and it is also the fate that he was born to reorganize Gankun. As an actor, he must respond to the call of fate. As for fate, he still has the right to choose, the freedom to act and the determination to make. Man must face the challenge of fate. However, in the face of providence, it is completely different. "

Faced with providence, he had no choice. 2020. 12. 19
