The Changguan Building of Beijing Zoo was built in the thirty-fourth year of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty. It was built as a palace for Cixi on the way to the Summer Palace by boat, and it was a European baroque building. Red brick wall, local plastering and gray plastic molding, and brick carving. Ionian column, curved gable decorated with spherical decoration. The corners at both ends of the front face are splayed attics covered with arched iron roofs. Shortly after the completion of Changguan Building, Cixi and Guangxu died successively, but they were not actually used. Sun Yat-sen, the pioneer of the Revolution of 1911, once lived in Changguan Building when he came to Beijing. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the first planning scheme of Beijing was born in Changguan Building, which is called "Changguan Building Scheme". Changguan Building was changed to "Beijing Royal Club" in 199s, which was closed to tourists.

Laiyuan Building, located on the south bank of Changhe River in the northwest of the zoo, is a three-story building with European style. There are long corridors on the east and west wings of the building. There used to be a western restaurant in the building, and the photo studio in the agricultural experiment field was also set up here. After 1929, Yuanlou was changed to Institute of Natural History, which was once the location of specimen stripping room, and was demolished after 1949.
