Bao Zheng is a real figure in history. He was born in 999 AD and died in 1062 AD. He was a native of Hefei, Luzhou in the Northern Song Dynasty, now Hefei, Anhui. His courtesy name was Xiren. During the reign of Emperor Renzong of the Song Dynasty, he served as the supervisory censor, and later as the direct bachelor of Tianzhang Pavilion and Longtuge. When Bao Zheng was an official, he enforced the law strictly and was not afraid of powerful people. He solved many major cases and was regarded as an upright official. Through the promotion of old novels and dramas, Bao Zheng became famous all over the world and was deeply respected by the world. In traditional dramas, Bao Zheng is called "Bao Longtu", also known as "Bao Heizi" and "Bao Wenzheng". These titles all have origins, but they are all legends and difficult to verify. The name "Bao Long Tu" is said to have come from the portrait Emperor Song Renzong gave him. Song Renzong liked painting and was good at portraits. Bao Zheng once reunited Song Renzong's mother and son. Renzong was very grateful to him. In addition, Bao Zheng was an honest official and repeatedly solved important cases. Renzong decided to personally paint his portrait as a special reward. This bust is called "Dragon Picture" because it was painted by the emperor. The "Dragon Picture" cannot be hung casually, so Renzong built another pavilion for him and hung the "Dragon Picture" inside. This pavilion was called "Dragon Picture Pavilion". Later, he was awarded the title of Bachelor of Longtuge. From then on, he had the official position of Longtuge. There are two versions of the title "Bao Heizi". One is that in the drama, Bao Zheng is dressed completely in black, with black head, black face, black beard and black clothes. In people's impression, he is a dark-skinned man. people. According to "Three Heroes and Five Righteousnesses", Bao Zheng was born with a dark appearance. He was named "Heizi" when he was 7 years old, and later changed to "Hei San". Therefore, the folk name "Bao Heizi" came into being. There is also a story from "Mengxi Bi Tan". The story goes that there is a river in Zhangzhou called Wujiao River, and everyone who touches it is like Mo. One day, Mei Gongyi, a scholar from Longtuge, crossed the Wujiao River and accidentally fell into the stream. When he came up, his body was as black as Kunlun. Later, the dramatist moved the story from "Mei Long Tu" to "Bao Long Tu", and wrote "Bao Long Tu" into "Bao Heizi" who was covered in darkness. In fact, Bao Zheng's skin color is the same as that of ordinary people, not as dark as depicted in dramas and stories. The reason why people depict it this way is because people believe that black is a symbol of uprightness and fearlessness, representing majesty and selflessness, which is consistent with Bao Zheng's identity and spirit. People called him "Bao Heizi" as a compliment to him.
