More than a dozen cases show that "Bao Bodhisattva" is a Manchu name. Among the numerous "Bodhisattva Protections", Yong Zhengdi's nephew is famous for his Historical Records. Here, the real name of Bao Bodhisattva is Lian Ren. In the fourth year of Yongzheng (1726), Yi Yun was found guilty of making a mistake in forming a party. He was deprived of his status as a noble and clan member and was forced to change his name. "Renamed Achina, renamed Treasure Bodhisattva." As for the changed name of Treasure Bodhisattva, most scholars think it is a Chinese translation of Manchu Bodhisattva Treasure. Among them, Bodhisattva stands for "the voice of China Bodhisattva", and "the protection of Bodhisattva" means seeking the blessing of Bodhisattva. In the Collection of China's Letters in Yongzheng Period, the author found an imperial edict demanding that the wife of Tuobao Bodhisattva be given to the Prince Cheng to enter the lover's library. In the imperial edict, there is also a "treasure of Wei Tuo" who was punished together with the treasure bodhisattva. It is the custom of Manchu to seek protection under the name of Bodhisattva He.
The "Bao Bodhisattva" in the inscription claims to be a disciple, which is related to the presence of the Eight Banners. In the early Qing Dynasty, the administrative system followed the Ming system, and Zhou Min was subordinate to Shaanxi Dusi. In the third year of Kangxi (1664), Shaanxi was divided into left and right political envoys, and Zhou Min was under the jurisdiction of Gong Changfu (now Longxi County, Gansu Province), the right political envoy of Shaanxi. Longyou Township is the gateway connecting Xinjiang and communicating with Tibetan areas. As the seat of Shaanxi Youbu Bureau, Gong Changfu should have a considerable number of troops. Especially after Alabotan, the leader of Junggar Department, invaded Tibet in the 54th year of Kangxi, Longyou's strategic position became more prominent. The Eight Banners have the nature of both the army and the family. Bao Bodhisattva, who calls himself a disciple, is probably the black hand behind the Eight Banners.
Manchu people in Qing Dynasty believed in Buddhism. Compared with the Buddhist "Sabao in Ganzhou", the "Treasure Bodhisattva" had more motivation to visit the Mogao Grottoes. However, due to the vague inscription of "Sabao (Bodhisattva) in Ganzhou", the word "Sabao" is still difficult to identify, and neither of the above two possibilities can be finally determined. This paper can only discuss the two, hoping to provide some ideas for solving this problem. Improper place, still hope Fang Jia correct me.
