Chi (Chí Chi) has three origins:
1. It comes from the descendants of Chi Ren, a sage in the Shang Dynasty. Chi is the surname.
2. Modified by Yuchi. During the Northern and Southern Dynasties, the Xianbei people in the north had the Yuchi family. After entering the Central Plains, they learned Han customs. Some of them went to Weiyuan and took the single surname Chi, and were called the Chi family.
