The architectural history of Shenzhen Hongfa Temple:

In 1983, preparations for the construction of Shenzhen Hongfa Temple began.

On July 1, 1985, Hongfa Temple broke ground. Hongfa Temple is different from any temple in China (which was repaired or rebuilt due to damage during the Cultural Revolution). It is a completely new temple. It is also the first temple built in China after the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949. At that time, at the courtesy of the relevant departments of Shenzhen City, the eminent monk Benhuan personally led his disciples to pray for the groundbreaking ceremony. After the construction of the Main Hall, Sutra Library, and Heavenly King Hall was completed, construction was stopped for some reason. With Zhao Puchu's care and promotion, Hongfa Temple was successfully completed.

In 1986, Master Benhuan wrote a letter to Zhao Puchu, president of the Chinese Buddhist Association, asking him to name and inscribe it on his behalf. Mr. Zhao proposed to call it "Samantabhadra Temple", but considering that believers in Guangdong and Hong Kong do not worship Samantabhadra Bodhisattva very much, Master Zhengguo said that in order to promote Buddhism, it would be better to call it "Hongfa Temple". Mr. Zhao agreed and wrote the words "Hongfa Temple" in his own handwriting and sent it to Ben Huan. The "Hongfa Temple" plaque was made in 1986.
