2:7 The Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and he became a living soul, and his name was Adam. 2:8 The Lord God was in Eden in the east. He planted a garden and placed the man he had formed there. 2:9 The LORD God made out of the ground every tree to grow, which was pleasant to the sight and whose fruit was good for food. Also in the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. 2:10 A river came out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it divided into four channels: 2:11 The name of the first channel was Pison, which encompassed all the land of Havilah. There was gold there, 2:12 and the gold of the land was good; and there were pearls and onyx stones. 2:13 The name of the second river is Gihon, which surrounds all the land of Cush. 2:14 The name of the third river is Tigris, which flows east of Assyria; and the fourth river is the Euphrates. 2:15 And the LORD God took the man and placed him in the Garden of Eden to work it and to keep it. 2:16 The LORD God commanded him, saying, "You may freely eat of any tree of the garden. 2:17 But you shall not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for in the day you eat of it you will surely die." 2 :18 And the LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper." 2:19 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to the man; See what his name is. Whatever the man calls each living creature, that is its name. 2:20 So the man gave names to all the cattle, and to the birds of the air, and to all the beasts of the field; but the man found no mate to help him. 2:21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on him, and he slept; and he took one of his ribs, and closed the flesh again. 2:22 And the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man formed a woman, and brought her to the man. 2:23 The man said, "This is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh. You may call her woman, because she was taken from man." 2:24 Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother. The wife unites and the two become one flesh. 2:25 The man and his wife were naked, and they were not ashamed. 3:1 The serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field that the LORD God had made. The serpent said to the woman, "Did God really say that you are not allowed to eat from any tree in the garden?" 3:2 The woman said to the serpent, "We may eat from the trees in the garden; 3:3 only from the trees in the middle of the garden Of the fruit of that tree God has said, 'You shall not eat of it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.'" 3:4 But the serpent said to the woman, "You will not surely die, 3:5 for God knows what you eat. Then the woman will see that the fruit of that tree is good for food and pleasing to the eye, and makes one wise. So she took the fruit and ate it; and gave it to her husband, who also ate. 3:7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized that they were naked, and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves skirts. 3:8 There was a cool breeze in the sky, and the LORD God was walking in the garden. When the man and his wife heard the voice of God, they hid themselves among the trees of the garden from the presence of the LORD God. 3:9 The LORD God called the man and said to him, "Where are you?" 3:10 He said, "I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked, so I hid myself. 3:11 "Who told you that you were naked?" said the LORD, "did you eat from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?" 3:12 The man said to him, "What you gave me?" The woman with whom I lived, she gave me fruit from the tree, and I ate.” 3:13 Then the LORD God said to the woman, “What did you do?” The woman said, “The snake tempted me, and I ate. Eat.” 3:14 Then the LORD God said to the snake, “Because you have done this, you are cursed above all livestock and wild beasts; you must walk on your belly and eat dust all the days of your life.” There will be enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed. She will bruise your head, and you will bruise her heel.” 3:16 And he said to the woman, “I will multiply. It will increase the pain of your pregnancy, and your pain in giving birth to children. You will long for your husband, and your husband will rule over you.
3:17 And he said to Adam, "Because you obeyed your wife and ate of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat, cursed is the ground because of you." You will have to work hard all your life to get food from the ground. 3:18 The earth will bring forth thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the herbs of the field. 3:19 By the sweat of your brow you shall eat your bread until you return to the ground, from which you were taken. You are dust, and to dust you will return. 3:20 Adam named his wife Eve, because she was the mother of all living things. 3:21 So the LORD God made garments of skins for Adam and for his wife, and clothed them. 3:22 The LORD God said, “The man has We are alike and can know good and evil. Now, lest he reach out and take again from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever. 3:23 So the LORD God sent him out of the garden of Eden to cultivate the soil from which he was taken. 3:24 So he drove him out. And he set cherubim on the east side of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword that turned on its sides to Guard the way to the tree of life.
