The right-click menu of the computer is gone.

Customize the right mouse button "new menu" option.

When you right-click on the Windows desktop and select "New" to create a shortcut or folder, there is a long file menu containing some applications installed on your computer in addition to the two options of shortcut and folder, so you can easily create new files of the types contained in the file list. We will show you how to customize the items contained in the "New" menu in the right mouse button shortcut menu by modifying the registry. It should be noted that please back up the registry before modification, so as not to be unable to recover when there is a problem.

First, add menu items.

-1. First, decide the file type you want to add to the menu, and start the application of this file. If it is a new file that will open automatically when it is started, or an application that can be used immediately, such as notepad, wordpad or drawing, no special preparation work is needed. However, if it is an application that does not automatically open files when it is started, it is necessary to create a universal file template and save it in the ShellNew folder of Windows. This folder is hidden in some systems, so you may need to select the view * folder option, select the show all files option in the view tab, and then click OK.

-2. Select "Start *" Run and enter "regedit" to open the Registry Editor. Click the+sign next to "HKEY _ Class _ Root", and you can see a row of folders in the left window, all named after file extensions created by applications in Windows (for example. doc,。 Xls and. Html and so on. ). Find the suffix of the file type you want to add to the "New" menu, right-click, select "New * Primary Key" (in the registry, every folder is a primary key), and name the new primary key "ShellNew". Select the newly created primary key, right-click in the blank space of the right window and select Add * String Value. If the program of the file type you are using is preset to open a blank file at startup, please set the new string name to "null file"; If the file type program you are using does not automatically open a blank file when it is started, please set the new string name to "FileName". Double-click the File Name string icon (or press Enter after selecting it) and enter the full path and name of the file type template in the Key Value text box of the Edit String dialog box. Then press OK to exit Registry Editor. You can immediately see the changes in the file list in the new menu.

-The following is an example. Right-click the desktop or folder to create a new Outlook Express message. Start Outlook Express, select File * New * Mail, add the text to be put in the mail, and then select File * Save As to save the mail in the \ \ Windows \ \ Shellnews folder with a blank name. Outlook Express will automatically add one. Eml extension of mail. Next, start the Registry Editor as described above and find the. Eml creates a "ShellNew" primary key in HKEY _ class _ root, creates a new string value in this primary key, and sets its name as "file name". Double-click the file name string and enter "c: \ \ Windows \ \ shellnews \ \ blank.eml" in the Key Value text box of the Edit String dialog box (you can set the path and name yourself). Press the OK button to exit the Registry Editor. At this point, you can right-click on the desktop and select New *"Outlook Express mail message (as shown in the attached figure). A new email icon will appear on the desktop, enter the name of the new email file, and then press Enter. Double-click the icon of the new message, enter the message content, and then press the "Send" button. This method can be used to create an e-mail message and save a copy of the e-mail message outside Outlook Express (or other similar e-mail program).

Second, delete menu items.

-There are many ways to delete the file type list in the New menu. There are three ways.

-1. Delete the file types of unused programs, and it is best to uninstall the whole application. You can use the Add/Remove Programs feature in the Control Panel. This operation will also delete the corresponding items in the file list in the new menu.

If the menu option of this file type still exists after uninstalling the software by yourself, please enter the browser and select View * folder option, click the file type tab, select the file type that is no longer used, and click the Delete button to confirm the deletion. This will delete the file type from the related file menu, registry and new menu.

-3. If you need to keep the application related to the file type and only want to delete the icon in the "New" menu, please open the Registry Editor as described above. Click the+sign before "HKEY _ Class _ Root" to find the folder with the file type extension to be deleted, and then click the+sign next to it.
