Today’s standard purebred Tibetan Mastiffs are mostly found in vast pastoral areas. They are divided into lion-head type and tiger-head type, and are classified into Amdo, Kham and Qinghai-Tibetan types.
Tibetan Mastiffs also have different appearances due to different living areas. According to relevant information, the top-grade Tibetan Mastiff with the best appearance comes from the Nagqu region of Tibet. The dense mane is like an African lion, with a broad chest and piercing eyes. The harsh environment of the Himalayas has endowed the Tibetan Mastiff with a rugged, powerful and resolute psychological endurance. It has also given the Tibetan Mastiff the temperament of a king, which is noble, elegant, calm and brave. There is also a kind of Tibetan Mastiff that comes from the Qinghai area. This kind of Tibetan Mastiff has almost no mane, the hair on the body is relatively short, but the body is larger! But its character is not as fierce and calm as the average Tibetan Mastiff.

The neck is thick, the length is coordinated, the throat skin is loose, forming annular folds. Chest deep and broad, ribs well sprung. The waist and back are straight and the abdomen is slightly drawn in. The croup is broad and short, slightly sloping. The tail is large and hairy, rolled sideways on the buttocks, shaped like a hydrangea. The forelimbs are thick and straight, with enlarged claws and palms. Hind legs are powerful with solid hocks. The mane is rich and rough, also called guard hair, with dense undercoat and clear layers of coat. The hair on the buttocks and tail is particularly long, and the hair on the head and lower limbs is short.
