The Shenxian Bay in the Karakoram Mountains is more than 5,000 meters above sea level. Speaking of its name, the person who named it is Lin Gengpo. He is the first captain of the Surveying and Mapping Brigade of the Xinjiang Military Region. In the 1950s, he was ordered to lead a team to perform surveying and mapping tasks. In the process of walking to the current Shenxian Bay outpost, we encountered great difficulties. The plateau is deprived of oxygen, and stones as big as eggs can be easily blown up by the wind. Every step the team members take is difficult. I saw a lot of skeletons along the way. Thunder often strikes on sunny days, and I feel that many people have been killed by this thunderbolt from the clear sky. The team members worked hard to move forward with the spirit of not being afraid of sacrifice, and arrived at the mouth of a relatively sheltered bay. Everyone was very happy. Lin Gengpo said, "This place is really a place for gods to stay" and "Only gods can walk here, it's too difficult to leave." Later, Lin Gengpo marked this topographic point on the map as "Shenxian Bay". After the map was reported to the General Staff, the place name was used. Before, there were neither place names nor people there.
The reason why it is called "Shenxian Bay" means: it is not a place that ordinary people can go! Especially under the conditions of the 1950s.
By the way, when Lin Gengpo's team surveyed and mapped the Aksai Chin area, they unexpectedly discovered that the Indian army's surveying and mapping team had already arrived in the Aksai Chin area and was conducting surveying and mapping activities. The team immediately realized the Indian army's intention to attack the Aksai Chin area, immediately reported it to the Military Commission and raced against time to speed up the progress of surveying and mapping to compete with the Indian army for time. In the end, the surveying and mapping work was completed before the Indian army, and the deployment of checkpoints in the Aksai Chin area was completed in coordination (the border defense troops followed the survey team during the later survey and mapping), which thwarted the Indian army's attack on Aksai Chin. regional plans. Therefore, Lin Gengpo and his team were commended by the Central Military Commission at that time.
