Shuangyang Deer Industry in the Home of Sika Deer

In 1995, Shuangyang District was named the "Hometown of Sika Deer in China" by the organizing committee of China's first batch of 100 Hometowns of Specialty Products Conference. Shuangyang District is located in the center of Jilin Province and southeast of Changchun City, covering an area of ??1,677.42 square kilometers, accounting for 46.8% of the total area of ??Changchun City. The district governs 4 sub-district offices, 3 towns, and 1 township, with a total population of 377,000 people, accounting for 13.7% of the total population in Changchun City. Shuangyang is 37 kilometers away from the downtown area of ??Changchun and within the half-hour economic circle of Changchun. It is a very important strategic functional area in the urban planning spatial pattern of Changchun City. The transportation environment in the region is very convenient. Changqing and Shuangjiang Highways connect to the main urban area of ??Changchun City, Longshuang Highway connects to Longjia Airport, Changchun-Shuangyang Railway runs through the north and south of Shuangyang, connects Shenji and Beijing-Harbin Railways, Changchun-Shuangyang Urban Expressway and the city The construction of the light rail is about to begin, initially establishing a convenient and fast road transportation network that radiates throughout the region and spans the entire territory.

Shuangyang District has many types of mineral resources. So far, 34 types of mineral deposits have been discovered, and 19 types of minerals are valuable for mining. Among them, resources such as limestone, oil and gas, coal, mineral water, and bentonite have large reserves, high quality, and broad prospects for mining and utilization. The limestone reserves reach 3 billion tons, and the reserves and quality rank among the top in Northeast China. The total coal reserves are 89 million tons, accounting for 64% of Changchun City’s total coal reserves. Oil and natural gas are distributed over an area of ??47 square kilometers, with proven oil reserves of 80 million tons and natural gas reserves of 2.4 billion cubic meters. The region's mineral water reserves are more than 100 million cubic meters, and the recoverable volume reaches more than 78 million cubic meters. The reserves of bentonite reach 3.8 million tons, and the development value is very huge.

Shuangyang District is a national ecological demonstration area with dense water network, beautiful mountains and rivers, fresh air and elegant environment. The forest coverage rate of the whole region reaches 24.7%; there are 17 small and medium-sized rivers, 41 small and medium-sized reservoirs and lakes; the urban green coverage rate reaches 41.5%, and the per capita green space area is 11.5 square meters. The air quality of the whole region has been maintained at the national level all year round. It is a first-class standard and has the reputation of "natural oxygen bar". Shuangyang is endowed with unique tourism resources. It has the highest peak in Changchun, the karst landscape with the highest altitude, the largest drop, and the widest area in Northeast China, and the rare ice waterfall in the world. There is a huge space for the development of modern service industries such as eco-tourism, leisure and sports.

Shuangyang District has a superior investment environment and has two provincial-level development zones, Shuangyang Economic Development Zone and Changchun Cultural Printing Industry Development Zone. In order to promote the rapid economic development of Shuangyang, the provincial and municipal governments have introduced the "41+1" preferential policy, which enables Shuangyang to enjoy the special treatment of "County Yicong County and District Yicong District" at the provincial and municipal levels. In order to strive for policies and projects Construction has opened up a "green channel." With the in-depth implementation of the Changchun-Jilin strategy, Shuangyang will become an important node in the future Changchun City sub-center and Changchun-Jilin integration, and its strategic position and development advantages will become more important and more prominent. Deer breeding in Shuangyang has a long history, dating back more than 300 years. As early as 1725 AD during the Yongzheng period of the Qing Dynasty, people in Pangutun, Luxiang Town, Shuangyang District, captured wild sika deer, built fences, and domesticated them artificially. ("Pangutun" is a Manchu pronunciation, which is translated into Chinese as "a place where deer are raised")

The development of Shuangyang's deer farming industry can be roughly divided into four stages:

The spontaneous free-range breeding stage (1725-1949). This stage lasted from the Yongzheng period of the Qing Dynasty to before liberation, when a small number of families spontaneously raised free-range breeding. According to historical records, there were only 307 Shuangyang deer in 1927, and the number reached about 400-500 before the founding of the People's Republic of China. It was also during this period that people gradually realized the medicinal effects of deer antler, and it became one of the three treasures of the Northeast.

Scale breeding stage (1949-1978). In 1949, Shuangyang County built its first state-run deer farm in Chenjiatun, Changling. This marked the development of sika deer breeding from free-range breeding to large-scale breeding. By the end of the same year, the county's population of sika deer reached 556. In 1958, two high-quality deer antlers from the Shuangyang County State-owned Deer Farm were selected for display at the Beijing Agricultural Exhibition Hall. In 1959, the second state-owned deer farm was established. In 1962, the third state-owned deer farm was established, with a population of 2,717 sika deer in the county. After 1969, the fourth state-owned deer farm and the fifth state-owned deer farm were successively built. By the time of the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in 1978, 5 state-run deer farms had been built in the region, and the total number and quality of deer stocks had been greatly improved.

The planning and market coexistence breeding stage (1978-1998).

After the Third Plenary Session of the 11th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the household contracting system was implemented in agriculture. The Shuangyang County Party Committee and County Government reviewed the situation and promptly proposed that "with the support of state-owned deer farms and farmers as the main body, the country should strengthen the construction of deer breeding bases and accelerate the development of wealthy counties." The strategic policy of "people" encouraged farmers to vigorously develop the deer breeding industry. A deer breeding climax was set off in the county, which led to the rapid development of individual breeding models and initially formed a pattern of simultaneous development of state-owned, collective and individual enterprises. In 1987, in order to protect the wild animal population in Shennongjia, Hubei, the state allocated 20 double-positive sika deer from the former county’s No. 3 State-owned Deer Farm to the Shennongjia own reserve for free rein. In 1988, Shuangyang County was listed as a deer breeding base county in Jilin Province. In 1990, the "Shuangyang Sika Deer Breeding and Improvement Project" was included in the "Eighth Five-Year Plan" Spark Plan by the National Science and Technology Commission, and Shuangyang County was designated as a national deer breeding base by the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries. After Shuangyang was removed from the county and established as a district in 1995, the district now has 5 state-owned deer farms, 38 collective deer farms, and 3,600 deer-raising households. There are 43,830 sika deer in the region, accounting for 17.5% of the country's total and 33.75% of the province's. The annual antler output is 23,160 kilograms, accounting for 12.9% of the country's antler production. In April of the same year, the Organizing Committee for the Naming and Publicity Activities of China's Specialty Hometown named Shuangyang County as the first and only "Hometown of Chinese Sika Deer" in the country. In May of the same year, the State Economic and Trade Commission and the Ministry of Foreign Economic Affairs approved the independent import and export rights for 11 major categories of products including Shuangyang antler and deer products. In June 1996, with the approval of the State Economic and Trade Commission, Shuangyang was determined to be the only national-level pilot unit for the integration of deer industry, trade, industry and agriculture in the country. In 1998, there were 57,091 sika deer in the region, including 3,000 in state-run deer farms, 5,000 in collective deer farms, and 49,091 in individual farmers. The region's antler output was 38,089 kilograms, with an output value of 120 million yuan. From 1989 to 1998, the five indicators of Shuangyang’s deer population, total velvet antler output, velvet antler yield per unit area, rate of high-quality velvet antler products, and export earnings of deer by-products ranked first in the same industry in the country for 10 consecutive years.

Modern breeding stage (1999-present). With the continuous deepening of the reform of state-owned enterprises, from 1999 to 2000, in accordance with relevant national policies, all the state-owned deer farms in Shuangyang District were sold, all employees were bought out, state-owned assets were transferred to the state, and all state-owned deer farms were transformed into individual private deer farms. field. Since then, with the continuous growth and development of private enterprises, sika deer products have transformed from raw materials and primary product processing to high value-added and sophisticated products, forming a modern industrial development model integrating science, industry, and trade. A large number of powerful enterprises, such as Jilin Changshuang Deer Specialties Development Group Co., Ltd., Jilin Zunlu Biotechnology Co., Ltd., Jilin Shuangyang Deer Breeding Breeding Co., Ltd., Changchun Hongqiao Deer Industry Co., Ltd., Changchun Shuangyang District Bowen Deer Breeding Co., Ltd., Changchun Shuangyang District Fengdingshan Deer Industry Co., Ltd., Jilin Heniantang Ginseng and Antler Products Co., Ltd., Jilin Pangu Sika Deer Biotechnology Co., Ltd., Changchun Shilu Deer Industry Co., Ltd. and other modern enterprises continue to The emergence of sika deer industry in the region has reached a new level. In 2003, Shuangyang District was designated by the provincial and municipal governments as the deer industry base of the "Jilin Province Special Economic Animals Revitalization Project". In 2006, Shuangyang District successfully passed the national acceptance as the only Chinese sika deer standardization demonstration area in the country. In 2008, the "Shuangyang Sika Deer" geographical indication certification trademark was approved and registered by the Trademark Office of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce, ending the history of no geographical indication certification trademark in Shuangyang and even Changchun City. In 2009, the sika deer industry in Shuangyang District was included in the Changjitu strategic plan by the Jilin Provincial Government. In 2010, due to its unique sika deer industry, Shuangyang District, together with 60 cities and towns in more than 20 provinces in China, including Tianjin Binhai New Area, Zhengzhou in Henan, and Zhangjiajie in Hunan, were selected as "China's Most Overseas Influential Cities (Counties, Districts) in 2010" by Hong Kong Ta Kung Pao. , town (township, village)", Shuangyang and Shuangyang sika deer are once again famous at home and abroad! In 2011, Shuangyang District was identified by the Jilin Provincial Government as one of the important "core areas" for the "dual-core drive" of the province's sika deer industry development. In the same year, it was designated as the "China Sika Deer Provenance Breeding Demonstration Area" by the China Wildlife Conservation Association. Shuangyang, Jilin, the hometown of China's sika deer, has ranked first among all deer-raising counties (districts) in the country in terms of number of sika deer breeding, total antler output, unit yield, high-quality antler product rate and foreign exchange earnings for many years, leading and dominating the national sika deer industry. development. The development of Shuangyang's sika deer industry has six major advantages:

First, the advantage of scale.

In 2004, Shuangyang District formulated and issued the only normative document on standardized sika deer breeding in the country - "Jilin Provincial Local Standards for Sika Deer Series". In 2006, Shuangyang District successfully passed the national acceptance as the only Chinese sika deer standardization demonstration zone in the country, providing a reference experience for the national standardization of sika deer production. In 2011, the number of sika deer in Shuangyang District was 195,000, accounting for 30% of the national total and 50% of the total. There are nearly 10,000 sika deer breeding households, including 400 households that breed more than 100 deer, and 8 households that breed more than 1,000 deer. Over the years, Shuangyang’s deer population, total velvet antler output, unit yield, high-quality velvet antler quality rate and exchange rate have always ranked first among counties and cities across the country.

The second is the variety advantage. The "Shuangyang Sika Deer Breeding" scientific research project began in the 1960s. In 1979, it was listed as a key scientific research project of the Ministry of Agriculture and Reclamation. After more than 20 years of unremitting efforts, in 1986, a scientific research team led by Comrade Han Kun, a senior animal husbandry minister in Shuangyang County, successfully cultivated the first artificially bred and finalized fine variety in my country and even the world - "Shuangyang Sika Deer", which was approved by the Ministry of Agriculture. identification. In 1987, it was included in the National Agricultural Science and Technology Spark Plan. Compared with other sika deer, Shuangyang sika deer has the characteristics of high-quality antler and high yield, stable genetics, resistance to rough feeding, strong adaptability, and high reproductive survival rate. In 1990, it won the first prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award. At the second China Deer Industry Conference in 2011, the No. 19 male deer of Shuangyang Deer Breeding Co., Ltd. won the title of "Deer King".

The third is product advantage. The district has 7 high-end deer product R&D and production companies with assets exceeding 10 million yuan, with products covering more than 130 varieties in 6 categories. Various products independently developed by Xiu Xiu Pharmaceutical, Changshuanglu Industry, Shilu Deer Industry, Zhonghui Deer Industry, Pangu Deer Industry and other companies have independent intellectual property rights, such as sika deer gene nutrient solution and deer fetus essence. Jilin Bio-Deer Industry Products Co., Ltd. has obtained the first GMP certification for deer products and health products in China. "Zunlu" brand "biological mycoprotein" has been successfully promoted to markets outside the province; products of more than 10 brands including "Shilu", "Changshuang", "Heniantang" and "Pangu" are exported to South Korea and Singapore , Japan, Afghanistan, United Arab Emirates, Western Europe, Hong Kong and other countries and regions.

The fourth is talent advantage. Shuangyang has a group of national, provincial and municipal scientific researchers such as Han Kun, and its product research and development team has gathered 3,420 professionals of all types. Based on Changshuanglu Industry, it has established a scientific and technological research group on key technologies for the industrialization development of high-quality sika deer, with 6 Each topic was led by 25 experts from well-known universities in the province, including Jilin University, Jilin Agricultural University, People's Liberation Army University of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, and Jilin Specialties Research Institute. They focused on improved seed breeding, special feed, disease diagnosis and treatment, velvet antler skin care products, health drinks, and genetic resources. Conduct in-depth research and development. Among them, Han Kun's scientific research results on sika deer breeding have filled the gap in the world's established species of deer. The marketing team has a marketing team of more than 2,000 certified brokers, and has trained a number of deer product sales talents such as Song Xianzong and Chai Yujuan. The sales network has extended to the international field. The breeding service team has more than 430 deer industry diagnosis and treatment service personnel and 38,000 deer breeding skilled workers across the country.

The fifth is market advantage. In 2011, there were 187 deer product distribution companies in Shuangyang. The annual throughput of deer by-products reached 1,500 tons. Two major deer product trading centers have been formed in Luxiang Town and Shuangyang City, with an annual total output value of 920 million yuan and a profit of nearly 130 million yuan. Luxiang Town alone receives nearly one million visitors every year, with a throughput of deer by-products reaching more than 1,000 tons and a throughput of fresh velvet antlers reaching 100 tons. The price of deer products in the town’s professional deer product market has always influenced the country and has become the national deer industry market trend. "barometer".

Sixth is development advantage. During the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" period, Shuangyang District was designated by the provincial government as the deer industry base of the "Jilin Province Special Economic Animal Revitalization Project" and received financial support for the construction of a 100,000-head meat deer base project and the construction of a provincial-level deer industrial park project. and policy support for subsidies for fertile doe deer. The sika deer industry in Shuangyang District has once again been included in the provincial and municipal “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” development plans. In April 2008, the "Shuangyang Sika Deer" geographical indication certification trademark was officially approved and registered by the Trademark Office of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce, achieving a breakthrough of zero geographical indication certification trademarks in the province's breeding industry. In 2009, the Shuangyang deer industry plan was included in the Changjitu Strategy by the Jilin Provincial Government. In 2011, Shuangyang District was identified by the Jilin Provincial People's Government as one of the "core areas" for sika deer industry development.

Shuangyang sika deer is bred through local type selection, using methods such as individual phenotypic selection of breeding deer, single-male group female breeding, quality and kinship matching, large group closed breeding, etc., through the establishment of a basic group, primary selection and expansion, and selection and improvement. Cultivated in three stages. Shuangyang Meihua is the world's first fine sika deer variety that has been artificially bred and finalized.

1. Physical and appearance characteristics

After long-term captivity and years of artificial selection, "Shuangyang Sika Deer" has shown many characteristics in terms of morphological structure, physiological function, growth and development, etc. Characteristics of the breeding type, specifically, are medium body shape, dark coat color, large and clear plum blossom spots, shallow backline, long head and wide forehead, wide and deep chest, and large abdominal circumference. Among the five sika deer types in Jilin Province, the double Yang The head length index, body length index and chest circumference index of sika deer are the largest, the body height index is the smallest, the limb length index is in the middle, and the overall structure is compact and plump.

2. Production performance

Shuangyang sika deer has high velvet antler yield performance. In 1985, the average yield of sawed bucks at the original Shuangyang Sanlu Farm was 1,050g (finished antler), which was 1.15 times higher than in the early stage of breeding, 59.6% higher than the average yield of Jilin Province during the same period, and more than double the national average yield of the same period. From 1986 to 1989, the average yield of top-sawn male deer was 1,243g (finished antler), an increase of 18.3% from 1,050g in 1985. More than 10% of the three-sawn bucks produced fresh antler (three rights) exceeding 5,000g, among which The No. 96 outstanding breeder deer has produced 15,000g of fresh antler for three consecutive years, setting a record for the world's highest antler production of sika deer.

Shuangyang sika deer not only has the characteristics of high-quality velvet antler and high yield, but also the quality of velvet antler ranks first in the same industry in the country. Its characteristics are: velvet antler branches are thick, the texture is soft and tender, the antler shape is perfect, the color is bright, and it contains It has the characteristics of sufficient blood volume and high content of active ingredients.

3. Stable genetic performance

"Shuangyang Sika Deer" is the result of long-term pure breeding. During the breeding process, antler yield and quality have always been regarded as the primary selection conditions. , therefore, the genetic performance of "Shuangyang Sika Deer" is stable, especially the heritability of antler weight traits is more prominent. According to the determination by the Special Products Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, its heritability is 0.48, which is high heritability. Therefore, "Shuangyang Sika Deer" Has high breeding value.

4. Obvious precocity

Mainly manifested in early maturity of economic traits. 80% of female deer bred at 16 months of age have reached sexual maturity, 100% of male deer bred at 12 months of age can harvest primary antler, more than 15% of high-grade three-antler antler can be harvested by two-year-old male deer, and 60% of three-year-old male deer can be harvested. - 80% of high-grade three-twig antler, the yield of seven-year-old male deer reaches its peak.

5. Strong adaptability and tolerance to rough feeding

Shuangyang sika deer has strong adaptability to environment, climate and other factors. It has a wide range of feed choices, mixed food habits, and tolerance to rough feeding. material. In 2007, the Shuangyang District Deer Industry Association submitted an application for trademark registration of "Shuangyang Sika Deer" to the Trademark Office of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce. In April 2008, the Trademark Office of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce approved the registration. The acquisition of the Shuangyang sika deer geographical indication certification trademark has ended the history of Shuangyang and even Changchun City without a geographical indication certification trademark. It is very important for building the "Hometown of Sika Deer in China" brand, realizing a prosperous area and enriching the people, and accelerating the integration of the sika deer industry with the international market. significance.

During the Fourth China Sika Deer Hometown (Shuangyang) Deer Products Fair in August 2008, Shuangyang District held a press conference on the "Shuangyang Sika Deer Geographical Indication Certification Trademark" at the Changchun Convention and Exhibition Center Hotel. In 2010, at the 10th China Specialty Products Culture Festival and the First China Geographical Indication Culture Festival held in Beijing, Wang Mingde, the former mayor of Shuangyang District, was awarded the title of Meritorious Figure by the Cultural Festival Organizing Committee, and the Shuangyang District Deer Industry Association was awarded the title of Advanced Unit. Zhang Lixin, the former deputy director of Shuangyang District, gave a report on "Efforts to Create Geographical Indications and Trademarks to Enlarge and Strengthen the Sika Deer Industry" at the Cultural Festival Economic Summit Forum with Chinese Characteristics, which was affirmed and praised by people from all walks of life attending the meeting.

The use of the "Shuangyang Sika Deer" geographical indication certification mark has brought vitality to the Shuangyang sika deer industry. The status of Shuangyang sika deer has become more prominent and obvious, and counterfeit Shuangyang deer products have been significantly reduced, further enhancing the market competitiveness of Shuangyang sika deer.

In terms of increasing income and getting rich, before obtaining the "Shuangyang Sika Deer" geographical indication certification trademark, the per capita income of deer farmers in the region directly from the sale of deer and deer products was only 1,500 yuan in 2007, accounting for 35.5% of the per capita net income of deer farmers in that year. ; After obtaining the certification mark, the per capita net income of deer farmers reached 3,800 yuan in 2009, more than double that of 2007, accounting for 65% of the per capita net income of deer farmers. The sika deer industry has become an important pillar for farmers in Shuangyang to increase their income and become rich. In terms of production, processing and sales, the geographical indication certification trademark has driven the development of Shuangyang Deer Industry. The Deer Industry Park has begun to take shape. Key processing enterprises such as Xiujiu Pharmaceutical, Changshuanglu Industry, and Jinlu Technology have successively settled in the park. More than 130 kinds of health care products in six categories have been exported to southeastern coastal cities. Some deer products occupy a certain market share in Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Southeast Asia and other countries. In terms of tourism industry development, deer tourism resources are favored by investors, and a number of tourism industries for deer viewing, deer play, and deer tasting are under development. Shuangyang is relying on the Sika Deer Industrial Park to make every effort to expand the strong deer and deer by-products industry, and strive to build Shuangyang into the largest sika deer industrial base in the country. On March 1, 2007, the Shuangyang District Deer Industry Association was established with the approval of the Shuangyang District Civil Affairs Bureau. Historical records

According to the "Shuangyang County Chronicle": During the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty, people raised sika deer in Pangutun (Manchu: a place where deer are raised) in Luxiang Town, Shuangyang District. The stone tablet unearthed from Pangutun also records this. Including the legend that there was a rich man named Cui Baozi in Pangu Tun in the past, and the stories of luring and raising deer also indicate that the history of artificial deer raising in Shuangyang is more than three hundred years.

In 2000, the Changchun City Water Supply Company built a sewage treatment plant in Lishutun, Shuangyang District. The soil was excavated to a depth of about 10 meters and many paleontological fossils were discovered. Among them is a skull fossil with branched horns. According to research, this fossil is a sika deer fossil. It can be inferred from this that sika deer already existed in Shuangyang in the primitive society 5,000 years ago.
