Huniu’s Observation Diary—Cat naming is a metaphysics

I raised a cat, a timid little female cat. After racking my brains for three days, I named her "Hu Niu".

To be honest, the name "Hu Niu" is really unsophisticated. It easily reminds people of Lao She's Camel Xiangzi. It has a feeling of naming cats in my grandma's time. This makes me like tiger. Niu felt a little guilty. She was afraid that she would never be able to get rid of the label of "earth". This guilt reached its peak after I learned that my cousin’s little white cat was named “Wang Fugui” and my cousin’s cat was named “Puff”. I was completely outclassed! At this moment, I realize that I am indeed a bad namer. Not only can I not think of a cute and fashionable name like "Puff", I can't even think of a name as earthy as "Wang Fugui"! Thinking of this, I can't help but start to worry about the names of my future children.

In fact, I thought a lot when naming Huniu, such as September, Coke, Bean Bao, etc. However, I found that the rate of duplicate names was too high and I gave up. If you are a novice raising a cat for the first time, you always want to give the cat a unique and meaningful name. This name is often an inspiration that comes to you in a certain second.

I have always felt that naming is a very mysterious thing. It is not that I gave the cat this name, but that she herself or was destined to have this name. I still remember the afternoon when I named Hu Niu. I stood at the door and watched this timid cat put down its guard and approach me slowly, one step at a time. Suddenly I thought of her name and said, "Just call it How about you Hu Niu? Tiger’s tiger, Niu Niu’s girl, from now on Huniu will be a little tiger!”

“Meow~”

“Hu Niu?”
