In the digital age, the card machine has even surpassed the advantages of SLR, but SLR still has advantages that cards can't have, including:
1. Using the optical viewfinder, it is unnecessary to open the rigid optical element and the display screen when taking a view, which greatly prolongs the service life of the battery.
2. Combined with the reflective structure, the SLR camera can use the infrared phase focusing system with faster and more accurate focusing, and the focusing speed is much faster than the contrast focusing system commonly used in cards, especially in low light environment.
3. Using a photosensitive element with a larger area (about 12- 15 times) than an ordinary card, the dynamic range is wider, the noise is less, the picture is clearer, and the depth of field is more easily blurred.
4. The new digital SLR adopts bayonet structure, which can change lenses and provide more lens choices.

Relatively speaking, these advantages also bring disadvantages:
The volume and weight of 1. are not as small as cards due to the structure of the reflector, so it is not an ideal tool for people who like to take pictures with it.
2. Because SLR is generally aimed at quasi-professional users, although it is convenient to operate, it is not as stupid and introductory as a card, so it is familiar to use it for the first time.
3. Because the photosensitive element has a large area, it is necessary to use a lens with a large diameter to obtain enough image field, so the lens will also increase the burden.
Recently, a NEX3 camera, which combines the advantages of SLR and card, has come out. They use SLR-sized large photosensitive elements and interchangeable lens bayonets, which can make the image quality comparable to SLR. At the same time, they removed the reflective structure. Although they lost their phase focus, they greatly reduced their weight and volume. Representatives include E-P 1, E-P2 and E-PL 65438 of Olympus.
