Plot summary
"The Proud Horse" is adapted from a true story. Penny Chenery was originally an ordinary housewife. After her father became ill, he transferred the family property to her. Facing many difficulties, how did Penny perform? In the history of horse racing, a North American thoroughbred racehorse became a smash hit. His name was "Brave Dominator", and he later withdrew from the competition due to injury and was kept on the farm. The business of the racetrack was declining. In 1968, Penny decided to choose one or two mares and pair them with "Brave Dominator". A mare gave birth to a chestnut foal. Elizabeth Ham used to work as a secretary at Penny's father's racetrack, so she named the foal "Secretary." When he was three years old, "Secretary" participated in the preliminaries of the Kentucky Derby in the United States and only achieved third place. In the finals, he ran last at first. Later, he accelerated all the way and won the race in less than two minutes. A miracle in 28 years. Later, it won the Porconis Competition. Its photos appeared on the covers of famous magazines such as Time Magazine, Newsweek, and Sports Illustrated, making it a household name. Penny's career also became brilliant. For a while.
Highlights of the video
The horse's hooves are flying in all directions, the horse's mane is flying in the wind, and the sand and rocks are splashing everywhere. A tight drum beat, accompanied by the dust hitting the face and rapid breathing, created a strong sound in the air like an iron horse. The finish line is in front of you, sprint! The BMW is galloping like wings and doesn't care about the cameras following and filming next to you. When they are running in full swing, they will even get carried away and kick expensive equipment that is following too closely. This will certainly hurt the stingy production company, but for the audience waiting to see the excitement, such a heartbeat rhythm will inevitably bring a more immersive feeling.
Humans and animals, dreams never die. This is not a novel inspirational story, but under the control of Randall Wallace (the original author of "Braveheart" and "Pearl Harbor"), it actually has a bit more majestic momentum. This is the first time Wallace has directed a script written by someone else. The story takes place in 1973. The focus of the film is Secretariat, a talented horse that won three consecutive championships at the Kentucky Jockey Club, the Belmont Jockey Club and the British Grand Jockey Club. In five weeks, he traveled to three states, and under the unfavorable circumstances that were regarded as the target of the horse racing industry, he broke the historical record with undaunted courage. It can indeed be said to be "once in a century." And this is not the key, the most important thing is: "Thousand-mile horses often exist, but Bole does not always exist." Because of the persistence of a little woman who knew nothing about horse racing at first, the most outstanding galloping horse in history avoided the chance of running a mile. A busy life. Isn't this in itself a miracle?
Miracles, after all, have their regular form. Perhaps because of this, this story that takes place on the racecourse is particularly similar to the experience of its predecessor, "Sea Biscuit" in "The Age of Era".
They both come from a famous family and are naturally beautiful; they are also relegated to the stable and looked down upon by others; they are also full of joy and sorrow; they are also brilliant and fascinating; they are also a blockbuster and sting the nerves of those snobbish eyes. However, compared to the dwarf racehorse that inspired the entire United States during the Great Depression, Secretariat is taller and taller, and its owner is undoubtedly more beautiful and charming.

Master Xing said: "If a person has no ideals, what's the difference between a man and a salted fish?" This saying leaped to the other side of the ocean in the United States, and it took on a more central theme and became a household name. The conclusion - "American Dream". Dreams are reflected in inspirational movies over and over again. Although the situations are different and the characters are different, they have the same quality: adapted from real people. This story must have clear paragraphs and a rigorous structure; it must have ups and downs and make everyone cry; it must challenge all the impossible in the process, and ultimately let the weak win (otherwise, why go to all the trouble); and, its owner Most of them were given the name "Disney".
I don’t know if it’s because I’m jealous of the Oscar-winning performance of “The Age of Era” N years ago, or because it poached the powerful producers of “Miracle on Ice” and “The Rookie of the Year”. Disney caters to all ages and focuses on families. This time I saw another miracle in the history of horse racing. However, unlike the "manly, red flowers for company" perspective of most inspirational movies, the protagonist is a woman. A beautiful woman. A beautiful woman with mature charm. In the horse racing world, this woman named Penny Chenelli has a well-known name-"The First Lady". Let’s not mention for the moment the feat of the “First Lady” who defied all odds to create history with her slender body. The most important thing is that among the dusty stables, she was in a league of her own and became an eye-catching sight. . After watching Husband Josh Brolin ("No Country for Old Men") jump to the front line, will Diane Lane, a hot mom with excellent acting skills, also usher in a new career in this film with the main theme?

"The Proud Horse": Fighting Spirit on the Field
The film does not give a traditional close-up of failure, but instead holds high the passion from beginning to end. The fighting spirit flag makes people look at the birth of success from another angle.
Compared with traditional legendary inspirational films, we all have to go through a rise process with ups and downs, which can be said to be "putting oneself in danger to survive". The control of passion has the characteristics of a normal distribution. The reason why "The Proud Horse" brought tears to my eyes may not be because of the achievement beyond the limit, but because of the fighting spirit that lingers in the film and burns silently. It can be said that the director interprets the legend of this Secretariat horse as a history of vigorous fighting spirit. The perseverance shown in the heroine Penny confirms this conjecture.
The plot of the film is very compact, and Pingza's powerful narrative keeps the audience's attention focused on every event. It really feels like entering a horse race to see Secretariat. I feel that it is the heroine's personal actions that lead to the climax of the story. In addition to her rare strong style of dealing with women, her delicate analytical skills and burning fighting spirit are fully revealed in the movie. This is why the film is so attractive. The passion for horse racing is fierce and intense, but the fighting spirit of people that has never been extinguished is still calculating the possibility of burning more fiercely at every seemingly impossible stage. . In the film, Penny says to her horse on the eve of Secretariat's Triple Crown: "I've won, and at this stage, I haven't given up. I'm competing against myself. Now it's your turn to compete." The horse's fighting spirit begins a mental baton handover. Perhaps we all need this kind of mental state before battle. Whether we win or lose, we won't know the result until we start. And if you understand the purpose of winning clearly, you will at least be convinced when you lose.
The positive effect created by the film belongs to everyone. It may make us feel a little wishful thinking and hot-headed. But at least it truly and objectively reproduces the scene where we should think of something when facing challenges.
What we cannot lack is fighting spirit, like Secretariat's fighting spirit that rushes on the field, and like the heroine's fighting spirit that does not give up easily. Full of fighting spirit, like "a single spark can start a prairie fire"!

Run, baby
After the earlier release of "The Proud Horse", the box office performance was not a big hit. , but its reputation has soared. Many mainstream American media have even predicted that it will be nominated for the Oscar for Best Picture, and that its starring Diane Lane will win the Best Actress crown. Today, the academic attitude has begun to take shape, and "The Social Network" still leads the pack with a huge score difference without any suspense. "The Proud Horse" was nowhere to be found. Although the "proud horse" cannot become the "dark horse", this is not an era when awards can explain everything. Coupled with the premature release date and low-profile inspirational film type, judging from its "Olympic bid sales", it is indeed a little short of success. For this reason, this result also follows the trend and is completely acceptable to the audience who love this film. It is enough to gain a true and pure emotion from it, experience the freedom and wildness of free rein, and the spirit of never compromising and never giving up. There are no dogmatic and rigid principles, no flashy and illusory artistic decorations, instead there is a true story, simple, simple and passionate.
The horse racing theme has always been a genre missing from the screen, and "The Age of Era" is naturally a classic that must be mentioned. "The Proud Horse" is almost exactly the same as the former in terms of the overall structure of the film. The three core characters of the horse racing owner, rider, and trainer are the soul of the movie. Revolving around the absolute protagonist of horse racing, it slowly unfolds over time, including training, competition, and glory. Inspirational videos are so direct and sincere. Whether they are simple and easy-to-understand maxims or profound and obscure philosophies, they are all nurtured in ordinary life behaviors that the public can relate to or participate in. For this reason, in most cases, the audience can easily understand every nerve of the film's connotation. It is one thing to know and understand, and it is another thing to know how to understand. What is said is often more straightforward and casual than what is done. This kind of dilemma is something that inspirational movies should despise and correct. When your heart is shocked by it and your soul screams, you are probably not far away from taking action.
Different from "The Galloping Era", "A Generation of Proud Horses" peels off the skin of the background of the times, rather than the power that makes people forge ahead spawned by the economic depression. The problem that the protagonist Penny faces is not related to the country's honor or the people's suffering, but only whether his family can continue to have a bright future. As a traditional housewife, taking care of the children and husband's daily life is the most boring and indispensable responsibility. The dreams and excitement I had when I was young gradually fade away, and everything is imprinted with a routine. When faced with the fact that the career her father was passionate about was about to turn into dust and stench, she resolutely chose to stand up, set up a towering flag, and shouldered all the heavy responsibilities and hopes alone. For Penny, her inspirational story started close to the sunset, but for Secretariat, its immortal faith and glory have just begun. The original English name of "The Proud Horse" was taken from the name of this legendary horse "Secretariat". He was not favored since he was born, he rose to prominence when he was just starting out, and he stood out from the crowd in the end. All of this seemed to have been arranged smoothly by God in advance. And this is not a plot line exclusive to inspirational films. After all, the reason why "inspirational" is called "inspirational" is that its ultimate success is inevitable and what everyone expects.
The film's depiction of details is quite vivid, which is why "The Proud Horse" can make people so excited and excited. Several complete horse races, the camera captures are smart and gorgeous, and the editing of the pictures is bright and refreshing, which fully interprets the suffocating tension on the field. Secretariat's deep breathing, methodical pace, and the trembling of every muscle on its body attract the audience's attention deeply into the film.
Thinking back to "Eastern Wind and Rain", the short "running dog scene" was the most impressive part of the whole movie. It can be said that Secretariat is exactly Penny. The exchange and game of eyes in the dusk further shows that they are indeed a whole. They all desire victory and refuse to think about failure; they believe in miracles and believe they can create them. Of course, Penny can't really be as innocent as Secretariat. Every family has difficult lessons to learn. What Penny has to face is not only the success or failure of the game, the profit and loss of interests, but also the gradually alienating sense of family belonging. However, as far as this is concerned, the film still stops there and does not come up with more plot points to explain it. This also makes the core of "The Proud Horse" simpler and purer, less worldly, and weakening the feelings other than Secretariat.
Another reason why "The Proud Horse" moved me so passionately was its soundtrack. When it's majestic and heroic, it's like "The Lord of the Rings", and the compositions of several dusk racecourses are beautiful and fascinating. When it is gentle and peaceful, it is like Xiaojiabiyu, making people feel relaxed and relaxed. Although I know in my heart that Secretariat will win the game in the end, watching its steps and breathing heavily, I still can't help but sweat for it. Of course, I never expected that I would win so perfectly and so heartily. Diane Lane, who plays Penny, gives a flawless performance, especially her soulful eyes, which communicate with Secretariat's soul that can only be understood but cannot be expressed. Personally, I have always regarded "The Success of People" as a textbook work of modern inspirational films, and "The Proud Horse" has obviously shaken the former's position in my heart. Perhaps, the legendary stories of Secretariat and Penny have inspired generations of people, but today, at least they inspire me again. Run like Secretariat.
