Unsatisfactory! Chang'an is now renamed Xi'an, but do you know what the original name of "Baotou" was?
Baotou is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. There are two versions of the origin of the place name "Baotou" in Chinese and Mongolian. The Chinese saying is inherited from "Botou" and "Botuo", and is commonly known as Baotou. In Mongolian, Baotou is a homophonic pronunciation of "Baoketu", which means "a place with deer", so it is also called Lucheng. Speaking of "Baoketu", there is a beautiful legend.
It is said that when Genghis Khan led his troops on an expedition to the west, they passed through the Jiufeng Mountain area. Suddenly, there was the roar of deer in front of them. Looking far into the distance, a tall and graceful sika deer stood on the opposite hillside with the deer. The army looked at each other. Its pair of horns, which were as big as two leafless elm trees, and its gleaming flower spots in the sunlight, astonished the soldiers. The Khan stretched his bow and arrows, but unexpectedly, he missed repeatedly. The Khan was wondering, I have always made perfect arrows and won every battle, why couldn't I shoot a deer today? The Khan immediately galloped his horse and whipped his horse and chased after the deer.
The deer seemed to be following him in a circle on purpose. When he got close to it and was about to shoot with his bow, the deer quickly dodged away and did this for several rounds. The Great Khan stopped and looked at his one-of-a-kind divine horse "Sarile" in confusion. It traveled thousands of miles every day and experienced hundreds of battles. How come it couldn't even catch up with a deer? Could it be that it encountered a divine horse? deer? It definitely comes from a mysterious place, be sure to catch it! The Khan immediately ordered his soldiers to search separately in the dense forest. However, they searched the entire dense forest and found no sign of the sika deer, but the forest still echoed with the sound of deer calls. As they continued to chase, the sacred deer disappeared and appeared in the forest again, and a big tree in the jungle turned around. Suddenly it disappeared. The Khan thought, could it be that the sacred deer got under the naked tree? If you look carefully at the tree, it looks very much like the deer.
The Great Khan was shocked and determined to find the sacred deer, so he ordered his soldiers to dig up the tree by the roots. Everyone dug immediately. After digging for a long time, the big tree fell to the ground, but not a single hair of the sika deer was found. Only a square bluestone slab was dug out, which shone dazzlingly in the sun. Shielding the sun with their hands, they carefully looked at the bluestone slab, and suddenly a pattern of a sika deer appeared, which was exactly the same as the one they had just hunted down. The antlers, patterns, body shape, and lines were clear and vivid. The soldiers were amazed. This deer is indeed a sacred deer! The Khan was full of emotions and sighed: "Bao Ketu, Bao Ketu! This is God's will, the sacred deer appears, this place must be a geomantic treasure!" This place is today's Zhuanlongzang area in Donghe District, Baotou City.
