There are two or three branches of handsome Jiangmei, sparsely extending towards the bamboo tops. Dongjun doesn't cherish it either, he is bullied by snow and frost. Ruthless swallows are afraid of cold spring and miss the flowering period. However, there are geese that are blocked every year, and the geese come back to see the open time.

The clear and shallow stream is like Lian ②, what is the Yutang like ③, the thatched cottage with sparse fences? After the sad old friend passed away, new poems were neglected. Weiyun Danyue, who should I pay to Jiang Tian? Empty self-remembering, the fragrance has not diminished, and the romance is not known to anyone.

Notes

① Han Gong Chun: Zhang Xian chants plum blossoms in this tune. There are lines such as "New Year's news" and "Han family palace is painted yellow on the forehead", which is where the name of the tune comes from.

② Clear and shallow: Lin Bu's "Small Plum in the Mountain Garden": "Sparse shadows and slanting water are clear and shallow."

③Yutang: luxurious mansion.

Appreciation

This is a poem in praise of plum blossoms, expressing the frustration of officialdom and the thoughts of old friends. The upper column describes the posture and situation of plum blossoms, and the first three sentences of the lower column express the appreciation of plum blossoms because the jade hall is not like a thatched cottage with sparse fences. It expresses greetings to the people and expresses one's natural mood and life value orientation. "Sad" means missing my friend. The last three sentences praise Mei's willingness to be lonely and clean herself. In fact, this is a reflection of the poet's own spirit and personality.
