Besides Huayan Temple, what other famous temples are there in Datong, Shanxi?
Besides Huayan Temple, there is a famous temple in Datong, Shanxi. This temple was once called Kaiyuan Temple and Dafuen Temple. The temple was built in the middle of the Tang Dynasty, and was later destroyed by the war. It was not rebuilt until the sixth year of Tianhui in Jin Dynasty (1 128). The central axis is symmetrical, the layout is rigorous, and the priorities are clear. The main building in the temple, Daxiong Hall, is an original work of Liao Dynasty, while Pu Xian Pavilion, Sanmiao Temple and Shanmen Gate were built in Jin Dynasty. The Hero Hall is built on a high platform. The main hall is seven rooms wide and five rooms deep, and the roof has a single eaves, which is a typical Liao style (the roof is flat and the ridge on it is very short). In the center of the temple, there are five statues on the altar, named Five Dhyani Buddhas, wearing smooth clothes and dignified posture. Twenty-four days protected by golden eagles on the east and west sides, it is a masterpiece of Buddhist statues.
