I've been hoping to analyze Odin's worldview and dismantle its settings since the clearance of Odin's Field: Ript Lassire. It's been a long time since the game was released. Players who also like Vanilla Club may wish to relive the wonderful story of Odin's field together. In order to facilitate reading, first of all, the story is roughly sorted out in the positive order, and students who have never played can skip it. The following full text is spoiled.
Simple version of the character story flow chart
The complete game flow takes about 4 hours, showing the world view to the players in the form of Alice reading fairy tales. Have you ever wondered why the Vanilla Club disrupted the complete story and split it into several character scripts, which is different from telling the main story in chronological order?
Here's an example: The hero is a brave and weak man, but he defeated the devil through his own efforts and rescued the imprisoned princess. Such a plot arrangement often makes readers feel that the protagonist has changed his future by his own choice. But what if the princess designed everything? Whether the hero changed his destiny and won the princess, or whether the princess changed the protagonist's life trajectory and looked at the script from different roles, this is the charm of group drama. Odin's field shows the plot in this way. Because the five protagonists in the game are quite different and have different styles, the story spliced between characters will never be dull.
The advantage is that players can watch the game story from the perspective of each character. For example, Odin, in the first character book, Gwendolyn is a good father in his eyes, but in the center of Mel Surtees's script, he is an enemy who invaded his country and killed his mother. Only when the player has read everyone's perspective can he fully understand the overall concept of the story. This kind of plot structure is very rare in general games, and if it is not handled properly, it will make the character plot too fragmented. In recent years, the Vanilla Society has intensified, spending three years polishing the script and splitting a complete script into 13 protagonists to write. (Yes, it's you, the defense circle of the Thirteen Robots)
The stage of Odin's field-the origin of the detailed setting of Erin's continent
When designing the game map, the original painter usually needs to look for reference, extract the shape of the real world continent and adapt it.
the word "Erion" comes from Greek, which means "sea of the lion" or "seas of the middle oceans of Mediterranean". Seen from the layout of continental plates, the map of Erion is similar to that of Denmark. The world map in Odin's field is arc-shaped, with a cold tone on the left and a warm tone on the right, which not only fits the world view, but also produces a shocking perspective effect.
main location
a. Ragnanival, Niebuhr, ragnar
A military country located in the north central part of Erin continent, ruled by Odin Ordyne, the demon king, with Nebulapolis (translated as the city of stars, in the game, we can see that this big white castle is always surrounded by rotating stars and surrounded by mountains, symbolizing its supremacy) and guarded by dwarves and Valkyria. The main currency used in the country is Ragnan Silver coin Ragnan Silver (the name may be taken from Viking leader ragnar? Ross Brock Ragnarlo? brók)。
The prototype of Gnanepur is the Asgard Asgard in Nordic mythology, and the mythical Asgard is also a castle, which is at the top of the world and the residence of the gods, ruled by the main god Odin.
B. The country of the dead-Enderfield Ndelphia
is located in the westernmost part of Erian mainland, ruled by Queen odette Odett, which is the country of the dead that the living can't enter without the permission of the Queen, and is the home of the tried sinners after death. The prototype is Helheim in Norse mythology, ruled by Hella. It is worth mentioning that Enderfield in this novel is different from the traditional concept of the underworld. It is on the same plane as the present world, which can be popularly understood as a prison country that can only enter and leave at will. In Norse mythology, the living can move freely between life and death. Before the dusk of the gods comes, Hella closes the underworld and the dead can never be resurrected. In the game, after the queen's death, the underworld is also closed, and the world of life and death cannot walk freely.
e. The extinct human kingdom-Valentai
Once upon a time, magic kingdom, which reigned on the mainland, used the magic crystallization furnace "Kolderon" as its power source. In this way, King Valenti suppressed all countries. Although his national power was at its peak, he died overnight for unknown reasons. Today, Calderon, the crystallization furnace, is still sleeping in the wilderness. Underground is the secret town of Puka people hiding. We can see that Valentai contains Persian elements from the clothing styles of Pukamen, Willbert and Ingewell, which is also due to the setting that Valentai's ancestors came from other continents.
We know that it was Prince Ingewell who destroyed Valentai. When Valentai was at war with Odin's army, Ingewell didn't want his biological father Odin to die, which inadvertently caused Calderon to lose control, causing all the people to be cursed and become rabbits, while his sister Wilbert escaped the curse because of the protection of magic crystal weapons.
g. A country with a long history-the kingdom of Titan
The most obvious feature of Titan is its capital located in the center of the land. The capital is a big castle, surrounded by prosperous cities (like medieval cities in France and Italy), where many businessmen and wizards make a living. Due to the high tax rate, people in this city live in poverty and suffering. The national currency is Titan gold coins, each of which is ten times as valuable as a Laguna silver coin. However, due to the scarcity of gold coins, it is also the poorest human kingdom on the Erian continent.
The word "titania" first appeared in the work Metamorphosis by Roman poet Ovid, which is another name for Diana, the goddess of the moon, meaning "the daughter of Titan". And later became William? The name of the goblin queen in Shakespeare's play A Midsummer Night's Dream. "A Midsummer Night's Dream" is a romantic comedy, which tells a love story that all's well that ends well. Perhaps such a name also corresponds to the happy ending between Cornelius, the prince of Titan, and Wilbert.
H. Lingerfeld Ringford
is located in the south of Niebuhr, ragnar, and is a forest kingdom where elves live. Its prototype may be a combination of Warnheim and Alfheim. In the game, the goblin army led by Queen Alfaria is called "Vanir".
I. The country of fire-Volkenon of Borghenieron
is located in the southeast of Erian mainland. From the map, Borghenieron is in a volcanic pit, and the whole palace is built on magma, which looks like the ruins of the Roman Empire. Ruler is flame, Wang Ou, Nikis Onxy is the only male in the country. The prototype of Borghenieron is Muspelheim in Norse mythology. The ruler Steyr sits on the throne and watches every day, waiting to lead the army to destroy Asgard. Every fire giant and fire soldier will only wake up and move three days before dusk of the gods.
Secondary location
C. Al Park Jung Su Forest
Located in the northeast of Erin, between the kingdom of Titan and Niebuhr, ragnar, it is the castle of Gwendolyn and Oswald.
D. Winter tind
Located in the westernmost part of Erian continent, the top of the mountain is covered with snow for thousands of years, where there are many cursed giant-mouthed bears, who are transformed from exhausted magic swordsmen.
F. the ancient city of sen
the secluded place of Berudo Beldor among the three sages. Berudo was originally a Titan, and together with Urzul and Scarti, he was called the strongest wizard under King Caron, and was finally killed by Ingrid.
J. Puka City
Located in the town under the ruins of the old kingdom of Valentai, it is the place where the surviving Puka people (the original people of Valentai) live.
Accept the fate and move towards the future-analysis of the main characters (the translation of names may be different)
Wilbert Velvet
We all know that Odin's plays refer to the German musician Wagner's large-scale musical The Ring of Nibelungen, and Wilbert's prototype is Sieglinde. In the original work, Odin gave birth to Sieglinde and Zigmond with mortals to fight the curse of the ring. Siegfried's love with Zigmond angered Odin's wife, frigga (the God in charge of marriage and family), and Odin had to send Valkyria brunhild to kill his children. (In this play, Odin and Princess Valenta gave birth to Wilbert and Ingway. Odin sent Gwendolyn to arrest Wilbert because of Bligand's threat)
Wilbert and Ingewell were born to Odin and Princess Valenti, whose parents were kings and princesses of two warring countries, and their fate was doomed to be bumpy. Mother has the ability to predict the future, she met her own death, foresaw the sad ending of two children, and left some notes. (Original: Inevitable curse and death will eventually befall brother and sister. ) Because King Valenta intentionally concealed the second half of the book, his brother Ingway always hated cursing their mother.
The brother and sister who learned their fate made a completely different decision. My brother Ingewell decided to retaliate against Odin, who used his father, and signed a contract with Queen odette to repay the sin of cursing all the Valentines with his own life. My sister Violet asked Haindl, a dragon with the same predictive ability, to find a way to fight against fate, and went from country to country to find De Tourel ring, in order to make efforts to avoid the final fate. As the last story line of the whole story, the Weierbeite line plays a series and supplementary role to all the previous story lines.
Oswald, Oswald
The Black Swordsman, as a late-stage character, was little known to the players at the beginning of the game. In the eyes of the players, he was a dark god of death, an emotionless killing machine, who killed Haindl the dragon just to show his strength to the fairy queen and Wagner the dragon to marry Gwendolyn. Before meeting Gwendolen, the Black Swordsman didn't understand the meaning of life. Except for paying back Melvin who adopted him, his eyes were only killing. After not being controlled by Melvin, Odin seduced the Black Swordsman with castles and magic crystal weapons (one representing wealth and the other representing power), but he didn't care. When he offered to sell his daughter to him, he agreed. (Like Zigmond, he will not be blinded by strength and wealth, but he is eager to find his family.) At this time, his heart is probably a little more sympathetic to Gwendolyn, who is in the same boat. Different from many teenagers, the protagonists in comics are kind and noble in quality. The Vanilla Club did not make the Black Swordsman, one of the five protagonists, make a big personality change after meeting Gwendolyn, but still retained his ruthless characteristics towards the enemy in the later period. (To the King of Fire: I can't help you. If you have enemies in the future, I'll help you kill them)
The prototype of Oswald comes from Siegfried in The Ring of Nibelungen. In the original work, Siegfried is a simple man who has no interest in power and wealth (Ozwald is not interested in Dietrell's ring), and his adoptive father Mimi brought him up for selfish purposes (Melvin When he grew up, Siegfried felt extremely lonely because he killed his only "relative" who also wanted to frame himself (Oswald was heartbroken after Melvin told the truth that he was a chess piece). Siegfried was guided by the bird to find brunhild, and kissed her awake to remove the magic. (Oswald is guided by the Blue Bird to leave the underworld to find someone who can support him to live.) As the inner voice of Gwendolyn, the Blue Bird has been laid on the Valkyria Line many times, so players can immediately understand what she represents after seeing the Blue Bird.
Julius
was born in the royal family of Titan, and thought that the prince who grew up in the greenhouse was a vase. With the development of the plot, we gradually found that Julius was brave, courageous and noble, and he was a real hero.
The story of Corinius focuses on lifting the curse of Puka, but the way to lift the curse is too difficult: collecting all the gold coins of the country. Although at the end of the Corinius line chapter, the prince still can't lift the curse, but Wilbert doesn't dislike that he is a poof card and still loves him as much as before.
The prototype is Zigmond in The Ring of Nibelungen, who fell in love with his sister Sieglinde and was cursed by frigga, the queen of heaven (Clenius fell in love with Violet and was cursed by Ingway), and Zigmond won the magic sword Grammer of Odin. (Corinius's magic crystal sword was a gift from Odin to Titan)
Gwendolyn Cornelius
It can be said that Gwendolyn did most of her behavior for Odin before and during the middle of the game, and she hoped to get her father's approval. When another illegitimate daughter of Odin was hunted by Buligang, in order not to let her father be sad and cover her escape regardless of her position, the first thing to do after the sleeping spell was lifted was to give the ring to Odin.
Some people say that Gwendolyn fell in love with Oswald in defiance of his father's orders. Personally, I feel that the Vanilla Club has done a good job in laying the groundwork for the script. First, there is a great contrast between Odin and Oswald in treating Gwendolyn. The former is unkind and heartless, while the latter is heartfelt. Second, although Odin didn't cast brainwashing magic on Gwendolyn, Gwendolyn didn't know that she was enchanted, and her subconscious mind would also make her emotions tend to be inclined to Oswald (the role implied in her heart). The blue bird, as another voice in Gwendolyn's heart, runs through the whole script and is an important clue in this chapter.
After reading this, friends who know the Ring of Nibelungen must know that the prototype of Gwendolyn is the beautiful and wise Valkyria brunhild. Interestingly, after brunhild was cast by Odin in the original work, it was Loki who lit the flames around her, and only the warriors who were not afraid of the flames could marry her after passing through the flames. After the game Rig Wendling was cast with sleeping magic, Urzl, one of the three sages, took her to the temple of the King of Fire, and Oswald defeated the Queen of Fire before bringing her back to Gwendolyn. I have to say that the Vanilla Club changed the flame in the original work into the imprisonment of the King of Flame, which not only fits the original work, but also makes the plot between characters more closely, so that players will not feel too separated when playing a single chapter script. At the same time, it also adds a boss that can fight. (If it's still the original wall of fire, how can players play?)
