What does Hongmeng mean?

Meaning: since the creation of heaven and earth. Hongmeng is the primitive chaotic state of nature imagined by the ancients. It comes from the "Introduction to the Dream of Red Mansions" in "A Dream of Red Mansions" by Cao Xueqin of the Qing Dynasty.

Original text: To open up Hongmeng, who is the lover? All just for the romantic love. Taking advantage of this helpless day, sad day, and loneliness, try to let go of your foolishness. Therefore, the "Dream of Red Mansions" was performed in which the gold was cherished and the jade was mourned.

Translation: Since Pangu created the world, who has tied the knot for love? Just for the wind and the moon. How to go, to be sad, to be alone, to chase away your feelings during the day, the day, and the time.

So, "A Dream of Red Mansions" was officially launched, and the love entanglement between Jia Baoyu, Lin Daiyu, and Xue Baochai came to the stage.

This is the prelude to the twelve pieces of "A Dream of Red Mansions", which leads to the twelve pieces of music and is also the summary and hint of the twelve pieces of music. This overture explains the origin of "A Dream of Red Mansions".

Extended information

In the fifth chapter of the suite "Dream of Red Mansions" and "Dream of Thailand", which predicts the fate of the Twelve Beauties in Jinling, Jia Baoyu is enthusiastically invited to listen to the Twelve Dancers live singing. There are fourteen pieces of music, the first and last pieces are the overture and the epilogue respectively, and the middle twelve pieces are songs chanting the twelve classic figures of Jinling.

Similar to the judgment in "The Atlas of the Twelve Chains of Jinling", "The Song" provides an important clue to understand the character history, plot development and the complete demise of the four major families.

The prelude begins with a lament for the love between men and women, which is consistent with the first chapter "The General Purpose of Love Talk". This song and the following songs all imply lamenting and singing about the unknown fate, indicating that the author has a deeper and broader sustenance.

In the author's opinion, women should not be disgusted because of their talents and abilities, but society suppresses their intelligence. Especially with the decline of feudal families, so many innocent girls were destroyed together. This is the author's regret. In this sense, it can also be said that "A Dream of Red Mansions" is an ode and elegy in praise of a daughter.

After returning to Beijing, he worked as a literary miscellaneous officer in a "right-wing sect" of the Royal School. His situation was very bad and his life was very difficult. In his later years, he moved to the western suburbs of Beijing, where life became even poorer. "Lu Ge Sa Hao" and "The whole family is often praised for eating porridge and wine." "A Dream of Red Mansions" was written by Cao Xueqin in poverty after his bankruptcy. The creative period was from the early years of Qianlong to about the thirtieth year of Qianlong.
