The Cantonese pronunciation is the same as "chu" for "saving". It sounds like "qu" in Mandarin.
"Zu" means cloth woven from ramie fiber.
It is OK to use it as a name. Because there are six taboos in naming in ancient China:
Not based on country; not based on official; not based on mountains and rivers; not based on hidden diseases; not based on animals; not based on utensils and coins.
However, there are no such strict regulations now. As long as the name has a good meaning and is auspicious, then there is no problem.
