Origin:

① Far after the Taiyi clan existed in the Renhuang era, it was passed down to Emperor Yao, in A.D. Around 2000 BC, a chief named Fan, named Fan Shu, also named Zhongwen, went to Tunqiu (now Qingfeng, Henan), the imperial capital, to participate in the deposed emperor and established Yao as emperor. Fan Zhongwen, a minister of Yao, was later granted the title of king to the east and west of Shandong Province. During the Xia and Shang dynasties, he moved to the southeast of Chang'an, Shaanxi. Later, there was the Fan Zhong family.

② It is said that after the Fuxi family, a man named Houzhao settled in the upper reaches of the Bashui River in eastern Sichuan. His descendants took the name of Bashui as Ba. Later, there was a man named Gu Xiang of the Bashi family who was five years old. The sons are divided into five surnames, among which the surname Fan originated from the Bajun barbarians.

③Emperor Ku of the Gaoxin family had a female concubine called Panhu, who gave birth to six boys and six girls. They later married each other and gave birth to six surnames. Among them, the surname Fan originated from the barbarians in Nanjun County, Wuling.
