According to written records, the ancient Wei village of Huangsiyang dates back more than 500 years. It has three main village names: Huangshayang, Huangsiyang and Huangshi. Guwei Village is 25 kilometers away from Huidong County and is under the jurisdiction of Duozhu Town, Huidong County. Near the north of the village is a tributary that flows from east to west into the Dongjiang River, called Xizhijiang River. In ancient times, place names were mostly based on geographical location, landforms, important landmarks, etc. At the same time, "jiang" was also called "yang", so the village next to a piece of yellow sand on the Xizhi River was called "Huangshayang". Therefore, Huangshayang should be the earliest name of Guwei Village.
"Huang Siyang" is the second name of Guwei Village, which is now inscribed on the west city gate of the village that was rebuilt during the Yongzheng period. There is much discussion about the origin of this name. A relatively unified saying is that Huang Siyang evolved from the homophonic pronunciation of Huang Shayang, which means "Emperors miss the place where they want to be famous." Because the village attaches great importance to education and employs famous teachers, the school's educational achievements are well-known in Huiyang area. After the founding of New China, the school name was also used as the name of the village and was used until 2005. In recent years, governments at all levels have increased the protection and publicity of ancient villages, and have also declared to the provincial government as "ancient building complex protection units".
