According to Xinhua News Agency's special report from Xi'an on March 13 (Wang Jialiang), many people are currently worried when naming their children because the chances of having the same name are getting higher and higher. The Household Registration Management Department of the Xi'an Municipal Public Security Bureau recently revealed that there are 4,000 people named Wang Bo in Xi'an alone. This number does not include the cases of characters with the same pronunciation and different pronunciations. For this reason, some experts and scholars have called for scientific naming to be more important.
In a middle school in Xi'an, there were four classmates named Li Na in the same class. When the teacher asked a question, all four students had to stand up as long as they called Li Na. Faced with such embarrassment, the teacher had no choice but to number the children according to age, or distinguish them by "big" and "little". In addition, in order to verify the identity of a suspect when investigating a case, the public security agency has to check among a vast number of people with the same name. In public institutions such as banks, post offices, telecommunications, and legal notaries, customers often have the same name and surname, causing unnecessary trouble to customers.
Experts and scholars from Northwest University, Shaanxi Normal University and other universities said that the main reason for the increase in duplicate names and surnames is that there are few Han surnames in our country. At the same time, when people choose names, their thinking is too narrow and related to similarities.
Some authoritative people who study names have proposed that the parents' surname should be combined with a double name, or the father's surname should be the main one and three names should be added, that is, a four-character name. In this way, more than 3,000 commonly used Chinese characters can form more than 20 billion names, and the phenomenon of having the same name can be greatly avoided. Nowadays, many parents have broken the rules and chosen four-letter or even five-letter names for their children. However, due to the influence of people's traditional concepts and customs and habits when naming, this naming method is still difficult to popularize.
