Mulberry Drawing of Murals in Wei and Jin Tombs in Jiayuguan
Mural No.9 in Tomb No.6 depicts a woman picking mulberry trees with a basket and a teenager holding a bow and arrow to protect the forest. Teenagers have obvious characteristics of Xianbei people. On the screen, mulberry-picking women confronted nervous teenagers, vividly depicting the stable life of male farmers and female weavers in Hexi area during Wei and Jin Dynasties. MuralNo. 13 of Tomb No.5 depicts two people picking mulberry under a tree, and one person picking mulberry with a basket, with a hint of harvest joy on his face. The other man looked back with a smug expression. In the mulberry picking map, Xianbei people frequently appear and play the role of protecting sericulture. It reflects the local customs at that time, and also shows that there is a strict hierarchy and a clear division of labor within the manor. In addition, Xianbei is a nomadic people with no fixed place, but the murals depict them engaged in agricultural activities and living in peace with the Han nationality. Therefore, these murals have become a powerful proof of national integration.
