What is Eden?

Garden of Eden

(Eden) [Joy]

1. Create a place where the main planted garden is located. This garden-like garden was the first home of the first couple. The Bible says that the garden is in the "Garden of Eden in the East", which seems to mean that the garden is only a part of the area called the Garden of Eden. (Gen 2: 8) However, later scriptures called this garden "Eden" (Gen 2: 15), while other scriptures called it "Eden of God" (Ezek 28: 13) and "Garden of the Lord" (Isaiah 513).

The Greek Seventy Versions translated the Hebrew word gan (Gan) as "garden" into PA Ra' dei SOS (pa ra'dei sos). It is for this reason that the English word "paradise" is associated with the Garden of Eden.

Genesis 2: 15 says, "God placed the man he created in the Garden of Eden". Although this sentence can be understood as that human beings were created outside the Garden of Eden; But it can also be understood that God first synthesized Adam's body from the elements on the ground, and then placed him in the Garden of Eden, where he was given life. God gave Adam the job of farming and gardening. There are all kinds of trees and plants in the Garden of Eden, some for people to watch and some for people to provide all kinds of food. (Gen 2: 9, 15) This alone shows that the area of the Garden of Eden is quite large.

There are many kinds of animals in the Garden of Eden. God brought all kinds of animals, including "all livestock, birds in the air and all kinds of animals in the field" to Adam and asked him to name them. This was one of Adam's earliest tasks. (Gen 2:19,20) The river "flowing out of the Garden of Eden" irrigated the land of the Garden of Eden. (Gen 2: 10) Because people were naked at that time, the climate was quite mild and pleasant. (Gen 2: 25)

What does the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden symbolize?

Everyone will be "satisfied" if they can eat the fruits of various trees in the Garden of Eden. (Gen 2: 16) But there is a tree, which is the "tree of knowing good and evil". Adam and Eve shouldn't get too close. Eve quoted God's ban on her husband, saying that they could not even "touch" the tree, knowing that if they ignored God's command and violated the ban, they would be put to death. (Gen 2:17; 3.3) There are various traditional ideas about the symbolic meaning of "forbidden fruit": some say that "forbidden fruit" refers to apples and symbolizes sexual intercourse; Some people say that "forbidden fruit" is a metaphor, symbolizing the ability to distinguish right from wrong; It is also said that "forbidden fruit" symbolizes the knowledge acquired through practice after people grow up and mature, which can be used well or misused. However, since the creator commanded people to "multiply and spread all over the earth" (Gen 1: 28), this fruit must not symbolize sexual intercourse, because people can only reproduce through sexual intercourse. This fruit can never symbolize the ability to distinguish between right and wrong, because a perfect and innocent person must have the moral ability to distinguish between good and evil before he can obey God's command. This fruit can't symbolize the knowledge acquired when people grow up and mature, because it is not a crime for people to become mature. It stands to reason that the creator can't ask people to stay in an immature stage.

The Bible does not say which kind of tree of good and evil belongs to. However, this tree clearly symbolizes the power that only God has, and this power is left to himself by the creator, that is, he has the right to decide what is "good" and what is "evil" for the created. God is the supreme ruler. If people want to be accepted by Monta, they must do what he thinks is good and avoid what he thinks is bad. This is not too much. (See the tree) The prohibition issued by God and the trial of disobedient Adam and Eve announced later emphasized that because they ate the fruit, this disobedience constituted the original sin. (Gen 3: 3)

Some modern critics may think that the record of Eden is too simple, so they don't want to believe it. But obviously, under the circumstances at that time, it was more appropriate for people to accept a simple test. The first couple lived a simple and happy life soon after they were created. They don't have to face complicated problems and difficulties, and there is nothing to worry about. All this happened after man rebelled against God. Although the test is simple, it is amazing that it can prove a universal truth concisely. This truth is: God has supreme sovereignty, and people must rely on and be responsible for God. It should also be pointed out that although the record of Eden is simple, it goes far beyond those who think that human beings originated in caves rather than gardens. These statements claim that people are rude and ignorant at first and have no sense of morality. The simple test of Eden confirmed an eternal principle. Thousands of years later, the son of God reiterated this principle. He said: "People are loyal to the smallest things, but also to many things; People are unfair in the smallest things and unfair in many things. " (Road 16: 10)

God chose a tree in the Garden of Eden to ban it, obviously not to use it as a thorn for Adam and Eve, nor to cause controversy or attract people's attention to it. If Adam and Eve admit that God has the right to make a will for them and obey his orders, their garden-like home will remain intact and full of joy. Records in the Garden of Eden show that the debate about distinguishing the tree of good and evil was provoked by God's enemy, who lured people into disobeying God's orders. (Gen 3: 1-6, see also Rev. 12: 9) Adam and Eve have free will and can make choices according to their own wishes. It is natural for God to exercise supreme sovereignty, but they chose to rebel against God. As a result, they lost the Garden of Eden and the blessings they enjoyed living in it. To make matters worse, they lost the opportunity to enjoy the fruit of another tree in the Garden of Eden, which is called the "Tree of Life" and symbolizes the right to live forever. According to the Bible, the Lord "drove him out, so he sent cherubim angels to the east of the Garden of Eden and set a revolving fire sword to guard the road to the tree of life". (Gen. 3: 22-24)

Where the Garden of Eden was originally located, people can only guess. Confirming the location of the Garden of Eden is mainly based on a river recorded in the Bible, which is divided into four rivers after "flowing out of the Garden of Eden", namely Euphrates River, Xiushu River, Bixun River and Jixun River. (Gen 2: 10- 14) The Euphrates (Hebrew Perath' Perate) is still widely known, and the "Hideki River" is the Tigris River mentioned in ancient inscriptions (see also Dan 10: 4). As for the Bixun River and the Jixun River, their positions cannot be determined. Havila 1).

Some people (such as Calvin and Delitz) think that the Garden of Eden is located near the top of the Persian Gulf in Lower Mesopotamia, roughly where the Tigris River will join the Euphrates River. They think that the Bixun and Jixun rivers are related to the rivers between Tigris and Euphrates. But in this way, the Bison River and the Jixun River become tributaries of the Tigris River and the Euphrates River, instead of one river originating from four rivers. According to the Bible, the Garden of Eden is located in the mountainous area in the northern Mesopotamia Plain, near the source of the Euphrates and Tigris rivers. Comprehensive Bible (1964) notes on Genesis 2: 10: "In Hebrew, the mouth of the river refers to the end of the river (Book15: 5; 18: 19); Therefore, the word ro's (Ross, meaning' head, head') translated into the plural form of' river' here must refer to the upper reaches of the river. ..... The usage of Akkadian cognate resu fully proves this point. Today, there is more than one source of the Euphrates and Tigris rivers, but the positions of the Bixun and Jixun rivers are uncertain. The reason may be that the flood in Noah's time greatly changed the terrain of the earth, filled some rivers and washed out some new rivers.

For a long time, it has been traditionally believed that the Garden of Eden is located about 225 kilometers (140 miles) south of Ararat, which is a mountainous area several kilometers south of Fanhu, in the eastern part of today's Turkey. According to the Bible, cherubim angels were stationed only in the east of the Garden of Eden, and Adam and Eve were driven out from this side. This shows that there may be some natural barriers around the Garden of Eden, such as mountains. (Gen 3: 24)

After Adam was expelled from the Garden of Eden, no one cultivated and cooked in the garden. It is conceivable that plants can only grow in the natural environment, and only animals are left in the garden. Then the flood came and the Garden of Eden disappeared completely. People can't know exactly where the Garden of Eden is, only from the Bible that it once existed. (second generation: 15)

2. An important place for trade with Tyre, which is famous for producing exquisite clothes, carpets and ropes; The Bible juxtaposes Eden with Harlan and Ghani. (Ezekiel 27: 23, 24) Some people think that the name Eden is the abbreviation of Eden mentioned in Amos 1: 5. The nations conquered by the Assyrian army include Eden. (Wang Xia19:12; Is 37: 12) Some people think that the Garden of Eden mentioned here is a small area called Bi Tadini near the middle reaches of the Euphrates River. (see Boydian)

3. The Levites responded to Hezekiah's call and resumed correct worship. Later, he was sent to work under Corey, the "keeper of the East Gate", to offer sacrifices to priests of all classes. (29: 12; 3 1: 14, 15)
