The origin of Qinhuangdao

In 215 BC, Qin Shihuang, the first emperor in Chinese history, made his 4th eastward tour and stayed here. He also sent Lu Sheng from Yan and Han Zhong, an alchemist, to go to the sea to seek immortality and inscribe "Jieshimen Ci" , Qinhuangdao has its name.

More than 20 emperors including Emperor Wu of Han and Emperor Wu of Wei visited Qinhuangdao. In 1898, Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty approved the opening of a port and established Beidaihe as a tourist and summer resort. In November 1948, Linyu City was established and changed to Qinhuangdao City in March 1949. In 1984, it was approved by the State Council as a coastal port city for China to further open up to the outside world. ?
