Origin of the name Jinjiang

The name of Jinjiang comes from "Jinjiang Water System"

Jinjiang is a river originating from Daiyun Mountain in central Fujian Province. It has a drainage area of ??5629km2, a river length of 182km, and an average gradient of 1.9‰. It flows along the Yongchun, Anxi, Nan'an, Jinjiang, Licheng, Fengze and other counties and cities. There are two major tributaries in the upper reaches of Jinjiang River, Dongxi and Xixi. Dongxi originates from Yunlu Village, Chengxiang Township, Yongchun County, with a drainage area of ??1917km2 and a river length of 120km. Xixi originates from Tiaozhou Village, Gande Township, Anxi County, with a drainage area of ??3101km2 and a river length of 145km. The two streams merged at Shuangxikou, Jingdou Village, Fengzhou Town, Nan'an City, and were called Jinjiang River. The Jinjiang River system has many tributaries and a high river network density of 0.171 kilometers per square kilometer. There are 15 tributaries with a drainage area of ??more than 100 square kilometers. Judging from the flow direction of the main branches and tributaries of the Jinjiang River and the geometric shape of the water system, the Jinjiang water system has the characteristics of a grid-like fan-shaped water system.

The Jinjiang River originates from the southeastern slope of the Daiyun Mountains. The middle and upper reaches are divided into two streams, the east and west. The two streams converge at Shuangxikou in front of Yingdou Village, Fengzhou Town, Nan'an County, and were originally called Jinjiang.

Xixi is the main source of the Jinjiang River. It originates from Xieyu Mountain (1,352 meters above sea level) near Daxin Village, Taozhou Township, Anxi County, and flows through Taozhou, Anxi County, Yidu, Yongchun County, Hengkou, and Anxi County Jiandou, Bailai, Hushang, Hutou, Jingu, Penglai, Kuidou, Chengxiang, and Fengcheng were first called Xixi after receiving Lanxi River in Xianyuan Village, Chengxiang Town, and then entered Luncang, Meilin, and Ximei in Nan'an County. It reaches the confluence of Shuangxikou and Dongxi River in Fengzhou, with a total length of about 153 kilometers and a drainage area of ??3101 square kilometers, accounting for 55.1% of the Jinjiang River Basin area. The multi-year average runoff of Xixi is 3.65 billion cubic meters, accounting for about 65% of the total water volume of the Jinjiang River. The water level varies greatly seasonally. The flood flow reached 8,500 cubic meters/second in 1935, and the dry flow was 1.68 cubic meters/second in 1963; The natural drop is large, with an average river drop of about 6.5‰; the multi-year average sand content is 0.73 kg/cubic meter; there are many tributaries, with 9 tributaries having a drainage area of ??more than 100 square kilometers.

Dongxi originates from the southern foot of the Snow Mountain (1,386 meters above sea level) near Zhenqing Village, Jindou Township, Yongchun County, and flows through Jindou, Chengxiang, Penghu, Dapu, Shigu, Wu, Yongchun County Lijie, Taocheng, and Dongping townships were called Taoxi in Yongchun, and they were called Dongxi after they reached Dongguan Bridge in Dongping Township and merged into Huyangxi River. Then it leaves Dongguan and enters Nan'an County, passing through Shanmei Reservoir, Pier, Meishan, Honglai, Kangmei, Meilin, Fengzhou and other towns, and then merges with Xixi at Shuangxikou, Fengzhou, and flows into the main stream of Jinjiang River, with a total length of 120 kilometers and a basin area of ??120 kilometers. 1917 square kilometers, accounting for 34.1% of the total area of ??the Jinjiang River Basin. The average annual runoff of Dongxi is 1.40 billion cubic meters, and there are 5 tributaries with a drainage area of ??more than 100 square kilometers.
