As Good as It Gets.
The story takes place in New York. The writer Melvin Udall is a weird old man. He has no family and no friends. He stays in his room all day long to write his 62nd novel, even if there is a little bit of it. Harassment will make him furious. However, his neighbor Simon Bishop is a lively young gay painter, so he is inevitably insulted by Melvin. Melvin even threw Simon's pet dog into the trash can and called himself a Ku Klux Klansman in front of Simon's black art dealer Frank. Melvin only goes out once a day, to the same restaurant. Carol Connelly, the waitress here, was the only one willing and able to serve him. Maybe he is the only person in the world that he likes. The divorced Carol lives with her son Spencer. Spencer suffers from severe asthma, which makes many men who are interested in Carol shy away. Soon, Simon's residence was robbed, Simon was seriously injured and admitted to the hospital. Frank forces Melvin to take in Simon's puppy, Wardle. To Melvin's own surprise, he gradually fell in love with this puppy that he had thrown into the trash can. Melvin's heart began to change, and he gradually learned to help others. He used his own money to send Spencer to receive the best treatment. Later, Udell drove the "gay Simon" he hated to find his parents for help, and invited Carol to accompany him. Melvin and Carol's relationship developed further on the way. Melvin said "You make me wanna be a better man", which moved Carol deeply. Simon discovered Carol's artistic sense of figure during the trip, which inspired him to regain his confidence and pick up his paintbrush. The two became good friends. After the trip, Melvin and Carol both felt that they had each other in their hearts. After bumping into each other, the two finally came together.
